The angel of the LORD said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”

The angel added,“ I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

The angel continued,“ I will give you and your family many children. There will be more of them than anyone can count.”

The angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.”

Then he added,“ I will give you more descendants than you can count.”

The angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count.”

Then the Angel of the Lord said to her,“ I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.”

And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

The Angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

I will greatly multiply your descendants,” the LORD’s angel added,“ so that they will be too numerous to count.”

Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”

As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will certainly bless him; I will make him fruitful and will multiply him greatly. He will father twelve tribal leaders, and I will make him into a great nation.

and I will also make a nation of the slave’s son because he is your offspring.”

Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heavenand said,“ By myself I have sworn,” this is the LORD’s declaration:“ Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,I will indeed bless you and make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the city gates of their enemies.And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”

These are the family records of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s slave, bore to Abraham.These are the names of Ishmael’s sons; their names according to the family records are Nebaioth, Ishmael’s firstborn, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,Mishma, Dumah, Massa,Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.These are Ishmael’s sons, and these are their names by their settlements and encampments: twelve leaders of their clans.This is the length of Ishmael’s life: 137 years. He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people.And they settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt as you go toward Asshur. He stayed near all his relatives.

Get up, help the boy up, and grasp his hand, for I will make him a great nation.”

No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side— he has revealed him.

Then he blessed Joseph and said: The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow to be numerous within the land.

In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel, and as an adult he wrestled with God.Jacob struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.The LORD is the God of Armies; the LORD is his name.

When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown on the ground.The angel of the LORD did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD.“ We’re certainly going to die,” he said to his wife,“ because we have seen God!”

For the LORD of Armies says this:“ In pursuit of his glory, he sent me against the nations plundering you, for whoever touches you touches the pupil of my eye.For look, I am raising my hand against them, and they will become plunder for their own servants. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me.

The angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim and said,“ I brought you out of Egypt and led you into the land I had promised to your ancestors. I also said: I will never break my covenant with you.You are not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You are to tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed me. What have you done?Therefore, I now say: I will not drive out these people before you. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a trap for you.”

The angel of the LORD extended the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire came up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.When Gideon realized that he was the angel of the LORD, he said,“ Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”But the LORD said to him,“ Peace to you. Don’t be afraid, for you will not die.”So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace. It is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites today.

The angel of the LORD came, and he sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was threshing wheat in the winepress in order to hide it from the Midianites.

Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.When the man saw that he could not defeat him, he struck Jacob’s hip socket as they wrestled and dislocated his hip.Then he said to Jacob,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”“ What is your name?” the man asked.“ Jacob,” he replied.“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”Then Jacob asked him,“ Please tell me your name.” But he answered,“ Why do you ask my name?” And he blessed him there.Jacob then named the place Peniel,“ For I have seen God face to face,” he said,“ yet my life has been spared.”

“ But I will be with you,” the LORD said to him.“ You will strike Midian down as if it were one man.”

Then the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed.So Moses thought,“ I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?”When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush,“ Moses, Moses!”“ Here I am,” he answered.“ Do not come closer,” he said.“ Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”Then he continued,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

In that dream the angel of God said to me,‘ Jacob!’ and I said,‘ Here I am.’And he said,‘ Look up and see: all the males that are mating with the flocks are streaked, spotted, and speckled, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to me. Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.’”

After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight. As he was approaching to look at it, the voice of the Lord came:I am the God of your ancestors— the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look.“ The Lord said to him: Take off the sandals from your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground.I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. And now, come, I will send you to Egypt.“ This Moses, whom they rejected when they said, Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?— this one God sent as a ruler and a deliverer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.“ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites: God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.He is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors. He received living oracles to give to us.

“ See, I am going to send my messenger, and he will clear the way before me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to his temple, the Messenger of the covenant you delight in— see, he is coming,” says the LORD of Armies.

who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see, to him be honor and eternal power. Amen.
