But Abram said,“ Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

But Abram said,“ Lord and King, how can I know I will have this land as my own?”

But he said,“ O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?”

But Abram replied,“ O Sovereign Lord, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord GOD, how can I know that I will possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord God, how may I know that I will possess it?”

And he said, O Lord Jehovah, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

But he said,“ Lord God, how can I know that I will possess it?”

And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

But Abram said,“ O sovereign LORD, by what can I know that I am to possess it?”

He said,“ Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”

And Zacharias said to the angel,“ How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”

So Gideon said to God,“ If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said—look, I shall put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”And it was so. When he rose early the next morning and squeezed the fleece together, he wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water.Then Gideon said to God,“ Do not be angry with me, but let me speak just once more: Let me test, I pray, just once more with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, but on all the ground let there be dew.”And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, but there was dew on all the ground.

Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

And Hezekiah said to Isaiah,“ What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord the third day?”

“ Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.”

Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say,‘ Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says,‘ Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’— let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had,“ Please, put your hand under my thigh,and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”

Then he said to Him,“ If now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who talk with me.Do not depart from here, I pray, until I come to You and bring out my offering and set it before You.” And He said,“ I will wait until you come back.”So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat, and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot; and he brought them out to Him under the terebinth tree and presented them.The Angel of God said to him,“ Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And he did so.Then the Angel of the Lord put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. And the Angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said,“ Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.”Then the Lord said to him,“ Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.”So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-LORD-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

If they say thus to us,‘ Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stand still in our place and not go up to them.But if they say thus,‘ Come up to us,’ then we will go up. For the Lord has delivered them into our hand, and this will be a sign to us.”
