After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:“ Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.

Though you are a lowly worm, O Jacob, don’t be afraid, people of Israel, for I will help you. I am the Lord, your Redeemer. I am the Holy One of Israel.’

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

He understood that the vision concerned events certain to happen in the future— times of war and great hardship.When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks.All that time I had eaten no rich food. No meat or wine crossed my lips, and I used no fragrant lotions until those three weeks had passed.On April 23, as I was standing on the bank of the great Tigris River,I looked up and saw a man dressed in linen clothing, with a belt of pure gold around his waist.His body looked like a precious gem. His face flashed like lightning, and his eyes flamed like torches. His arms and feet shone like polished bronze, and his voice roared like a vast multitude of people.Only I, Daniel, saw this vision. The men with me saw nothing, but they were suddenly terrified and ran away to hide.So I was left there all alone to see this amazing vision. My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak.Then I heard the man speak, and when I heard the sound of his voice, I fainted and lay there with my face to the ground.Just then a hand touched me and lifted me, still trembling, to my hands and knees.And the man said to me,“ Daniel, you are very precious to God, so listen carefully to what I have to say to you. Stand up, for I have been sent to you.” When he said this to me, I stood up, still trembling.Then he said,“ Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.But for twenty one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.Now I am here to explain what will happen to your people in the future, for this vision concerns a time yet to come.”While he was speaking to me, I looked down at the ground, unable to say a word.Then the one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing in front of me,“ I am filled with anguish because of the vision I have seen, my lord, and I am very weak.

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,“ Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.

Afterward the Spirit of God carried me back again to Babylonia, to the people in exile there. And so ended the vision of my visit to Jerusalem.

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.

( In those days if people wanted a message from God, they would say,“ Let’s go and ask the seer,” for prophets used to be called seers.)

And the Lord said to them,“ Now listen to what I say:“ If there were prophets among you, I, the Lord, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams.

Then David continued,“ Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said,“ Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.

whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you,

Jesus responded,“ Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last.

On July 31 of my thirtieth year, while I was with the Judean exiles beside the Kebar River in Babylon, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

“ Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.What is the price of two sparrows— one copper coin? O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed.

They said,“ We were sent by Cornelius, a Roman officer. He is a devout and God fearing man, well respected by all the Jews. A holy angel instructed him to summon you to his house so that he can hear your message.”

Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses— is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock— not one!”

Then the angel spoke to the women.“ Don’t be afraid!” he said.“ I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
