于是他们把自己手中所有的外邦神像和自己耳朵上的环子都交给雅各；雅各把它们埋藏在示剑附近的橡树底下。

因着信，他做为外人客居在应许之地，住在帐幕里，与同一个应许的共同继承人以撒、雅各一样，

于是牧养亚伯兰牲畜的和牧养罗得牲畜的就起了纷争。当时迦南人和比利洗人住在那地。

亚瓦底人、洗玛利人、哈马人。后来迦南的各家族就分散了。迦南的边界从西顿延伸到基拉耳，直到加沙；又延伸到所多玛、格摩拉、押玛、洗扁，直到拉沙。

这样就来到了撒马利亚的一个城，叫叙加。这城靠近雅各给他儿子约瑟的那块地，

雅各从巴旦-亚兰回来的时候，平安地来到迦南地的示剑城，在城的对面支搭帐篷。

迦南生了长子西顿，接着是赫提，

就在那一天，耶和华与亚伯兰立约，说：“我已经把这地赐给你的后裔，从埃及河直到幼发拉底大河，就是基尼人、基尼洗人、甲摩尼人、赫提人、比利洗人、利乏音人、亚摩利人、迦南人、革迦撒人、耶布斯人之地。”

那地的族长希未人哈抹的儿子示剑看见她，就抓住她，与她同睡，玷辱了她。

遗体被带回示剑，安放到亚伯拉罕在示剑用一笔银子从哈莫尔的子孙买来的坟墓里。
