亚吉叫大卫来，对他说：“我指着永生的耶和华起誓，你是个正直人。你随我在军中出入，我也很满意。自从你投奔我到如今，我未曾看见你有什么过失，但是众领袖看你不顺眼。现在你平平安安地回去，不要做非利士人领袖眼中看为恶的事。”大卫对亚吉说：“但我做了什么呢？自从仆人到你面前，直到今日，你查出我有什么过错，使我不去攻击我主我王的仇敌呢？”亚吉回答大卫说：“我知道你在我眼中是好人，如同神的使者一样，只是非利士人的领袖说：‘这人不可同我们上战场。’现在，你和跟随你来的，就是你主人的仆人，清晨要早早起来，回到我所指派你的地方去，不要把中伤的话放在心上，因为你在我面前很好。你们清晨早早起来，天一亮就回去吧！”于是大卫和他的人清晨早早起来，回到非利士人的地去。非利士人也上耶斯列去了。

于是，摩西给他的岳父送行，他就回到本地去了。
