Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.

Even those who are circumcised don’t obey the law. But they want you to be circumcised. Then they can brag about what has been done to your body.

爾等實無誇耀之理由。豈不知些須之酵、能醱全飥乎？

吾人苟能以天主之精神、昭事天主、一心以基督耶穌為榮、而不恃形體、斯則真受割禮矣。

倘爾擁有猶太人之名、以法為恃、以天主為誇、識天主之旨、且熟諳法意、洞悉精微自命為瞽者之相、昏者之光、愚者之師、童蒙之傅、以為一切真知妙識、皆備於法矣；然則爾欲正人、盍先正己！禁人為盜者、豈可自身為盜？禁人奸淫者、豈可自犯奸淫？厭惡偶像者、豈可褻瀆聖殿？而以法為誇者、豈可明知故犯、以辱天主乎？蓋正如經之所言：『因爾之故、天主之名、為世詬病。』爾苟能遵法而行、割禮固屬有益；如仍犯法、則雖受割、亦猶未割。

哀哉爾經生與法利塞人、虛偽之徒也、蓋爾周行海陸、招人入教、既入、則引之為地獄子、較爾猶惡。

是故切勿因人而誇也；應知萬物皆備於爾矣。

爾等固應遵其所言、惟不可效其所行；蓋若輩有言而無行也。

哀哉爾經生與法利塞人、虛偽之徒也！蓋爾斤斤於薄荷、蘹香、蒔蘿、什一之輸、而於律中綱要、如正義、仁慈、信德、則漠然置之。彼固當行、此亦焉可廢哉？

以自由為號召、而自身則為腐敗之奴隸。蓋為邪惡所克者、即成邪惡之奴矣。

然則吾人視他族果無所勝乎？實無所勝也！蓋無論猶太人與希臘人、其為罪人則一也。此為吾儕向所主張者；正如經云：『茫茫寰海裏、竟無一介仁；亦無智慧子想與主相親。紛紛入歧途、溷濁如垢塵；欲求為善者、舉世無一人。』又云：『舌端弄詭譎、咽喉如荒墓；唇內藏辛螫、口中含咒詛；流血逞捷足、殘虐鋪其路；心昧和平道、目無造化主。』夫法之所言、所以昭示法內之人、亦所以塞夫人之口、而使舉世皆服罪於天主之前也。

方今以身世自誇者多矣、吾亦欲一誇焉。
