看似充滿智慧，其實只不過是自創的宗教、自表謙卑、苦待己身，對於克制邪情私慾毫無用處。

其實這些人是假使徒，為人詭詐，冒充基督的使徒。

憑自己講論的人是要尋求自己的榮耀，但人子真實無偽，毫無不義，祂是為了使差祂來的那位得榮耀。

「他們的所作所為是為了給人看的，他們把額上佩戴的經文盒子加寬了，又將衣裳的穗邊加長了。

有幾個信了主的法利賽人站起來說：「外族的信徒必須接受割禮，而且還要遵守摩西的律法。」

當然，有些人宣講基督是出於嫉妒和爭強好勝，也有些人是出於善意。

那些接受割禮的人自己也不能遵行律法。他們要你們接受割禮，無非是想藉著你們的肉體誇耀。

耶穌對他們說：「你們在人面前自以為義，但上帝能看透你們的心。因為世人所看重的東西在上帝看來卻是可憎的。

「你們禁食的時候，不要像偽君子那樣愁眉苦臉，因為他們故意蓬頭垢面，好讓別人知道他們在禁食。我實在告訴你們，他們得到的賞賜不過是人的讚賞。

他們侵吞寡婦的財產，還假意做冗長的禱告。這種人必受到更嚴厲的懲罰！」

各人不要只顧自己的事，也要為別人的需要著想。

我們不敢和那些自我推薦的人相提並論！他們以自己的尺度衡量自己，自我比較，實在不明智！

「因此，賙濟窮人的時候，不要大吹大擂，像那些偽君子在會堂和街市上所行的一樣，以博取人們的讚賞。我實在告訴你們，他們得到的賞賜僅此而已。

你們虛有公義的外表，內心卻充滿了各種的虛偽和罪惡。
