蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain,“ The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:“ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.

Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

Then He said to them,“ Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

But He turned and said to Peter,“ Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.

So I said:“ Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”

Jesus answered and said to him,“ Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.For I know that in me( that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?I thank God— through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

But he said to Him,“ Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.

Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said,“ This man was also with Him.”But he denied Him, saying,“ Woman, I do not know Him.”And after a little while another saw him and said,“ You also are of them.” But Peter said,“ Man, I am not!”Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying,“ Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”But Peter said,“ Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently.Oh, that my ways were directed To keep Your statutes!Then I would not be ashamed, When I look into all Your commandments.

Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness.

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You will provide atonement for them.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; Seek Your servant, For I do not forget Your commandments.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.
