蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

爾曹若從肉體而行、必死、若以聖神而滅身之邪行、必生、

我心切慕將碎、時時思念主之法律、

蓋從肉體者體肉體之事、從聖神者體聖神之事、體肉體、死也、體聖神、生且安、體肉體、乃與天主為仇、因不服天主之法、且不能服也、故凡從肉體者、不能見悅於天主、

爾以為聖經所言徒然乎、居於我內之神、居於我內之神或作天主所賜居於我內之神乃使人懷慾以致嫉妒乎、或作經載云居於我內之神甚欲我熱中服之爾意是言徒然乎然彼賜恩尤大、故曰、天主擯斥驕傲者、賜恩於謙卑者、

恆行善、永不犯罪、若是之善人、世間無有、

當警醒祈禱、免入誘惑、心固願而身弱矣、

我欲趨赴主誡命之道、因主使我之心寛廣、○

誤犯之罪、誰能知之、願主赦我暗中之過、不容僕人故意犯罪、不容惡念主於我心、我便完全、免犯大罪、

求天主為我造潔淨之心、為我新作正直之志、莫逐我離於主面、莫從我收回主之聖神、求主仍施拯救、使我欣喜、賦畀我樂遵主道之志、

我儕各人屢陷於過、言語無過者、即為完人、能約束全身、

謂之曰、何寢也、起而祈禱、免入誘惑、

耶穌顧彼得謂之曰、撒但退、爾阻我、因爾不念天主之事、乃念人之事也、

然則何言、律法即罪乎、非也、然非由律法、我不識罪、律法若不云勿貪、則我不識貪、罪藉律法而乘機、使多慾動於我中、無律法、則罪死矣、

我非言已得、或已成全、我惟追求、或可得之、基督耶穌得我、亦為欲我得之也、兄弟乎、我不自以為已得、惟有一事、我不顧後而進前、向標準直趨、欲得其賞、即天主因基督耶穌、由上召我之賞、凡我儕純全者、當懷此意、若有異意者、天主必以此示爾、然我儕所至之地、當遵一法、當懷一意、○

凡不與我偕者、則敵我、不與我斂者、則散也、

求天主按主之恩惠矜恤我、以主大憐憫、塗抹我之愆尤、將我之過惡洗滌潔淨、消除我之罪孽、我自知我之愆尤、我之罪孽、常在我目前、我惟得罪於主、在主之前行惡、主譴責我乃合理、審鞫我乃公義、我方生於世、即有過惡、孕於母胎、已有罪孽、

若言己無罪、則自欺而真理不在我衷、若認己罪、天主乃誠信公義、必赦免我罪、洗滌我一切不義、若言未嘗犯罪、則以天主之言為誑、其道不在我心、

求主引我行主誡命之道、因此道為我所喜悅、

我曰、禍哉、我必亡矣、我乃唇穢之人、居於唇穢之民中、而我目睹大主宰萬有之主也、

耶穌曰、西門巴約拿、爾福矣、蓋非屬血氣者示爾、乃我在天之父示爾也、

是誡本為致生、反致我死、蓋罪藉誡乘機誘我、且以之殺我、如是、律法乃聖、誡亦聖、義且善也、然則善者可致我死乎、非也、乃罪藉善者使我死、以顯罪之為罪、致罪因誡愈形其惡者也、我儕知律法純神、我乃屬肉體、見鬻於罪、為其所轄、我所為者、不自知也、因我所願者、我不行之、我所惡者、斯行之、若我所行者、我不願行、則證律法為善、行之者非我、乃居於我中之罪、我亦知我中、即在我肉體中、無有善、雖願為善、而為善不得、是以我所願之善、竟不行之、所不願之惡、反行之、若我行所不願、則行之者非我、乃居我中之罪行之、我覺我內有斯法、即我願行善之時、有惡偕我、我以內心悅天主之法、惟覺肢體中別有一法、與我心之法戰、而擄我以從於肢體中罪之法、我誠苦矣、誰能救我脫此致死之身乎、我感謝天主、賴我主耶穌基督而得此救、如是、我以心服天主之法、以肉體服罪之法、

然則律法與天主之許相反乎、非也、若賜以能致生之律法、則人必由律法可得稱義、

我之過惡、多至難堪、我之愆尤、主必赦免、

我迷失道途、猶如亡羊、求主尋主之僕以歸、因我不忘主之誡命、

主若究察罪愆、主歟、何人能立、

主之法度為我所喜悅、當作我之謀士、○我之生命、幾歸塵埃、求主依主之前言、使我蘇醒、
