奴隸不能永遠住在家裡，唯有兒子才可以永遠住在家裡。

你們接受的，不是奴僕的靈，使你們仍舊懼怕；你們接受的，是使人成為嗣子的靈，使我們呼叫“阿爸、父”。聖靈親自和我們的靈一同證明我們是神的兒女。既然是兒女，就是後嗣；是神的後嗣，也和基督一同作後嗣。我們既然和他一同受苦，就必和他一同得榮耀。

那又怎麼樣呢？以色列人懇切尋找的，他們沒有得到，蒙揀選的人倒得著了。其餘的人都成了頑固的，正如經上所記：“神給了他們麻木的靈，有眼睛卻看不見，有耳朵卻聽不到，直到今日。”大衛也說：“願他們的筵席成為他們的網羅、陷阱、絆腳石和報應；願他們的眼睛昏暗，不能看見；願他們的背脊常常彎曲。”那麼我要說，他們失足是要倒下去嗎？絕對不是！反而因為他們的過犯，救恩就臨到外族人，為了要激起他們奮發。

但聖經把所有的人都圈在罪中，好把那因信耶穌基督而來的應許，賜給相信的人。

神並沒有丟棄他預先知道的子民。難道你們不知道在經上以利亞的話是怎樣說的嗎？他向神控訴以色列人：

聖經既然預先看見神要使外族人因信稱義，就預先把好信息傳給亞伯拉罕：“萬國都必因你得福。”

經上怎麼樣說呢？“亞伯拉罕信神，這就算為他的義。”

聖經說：“神愛他那安置在我們裡面的靈，愛到嫉妒的地步”（或譯：“神安置在我們裡面的靈，愛到嫉妒的地步”），你們想這話是徒然的嗎？
