奴隶不能永远住在家里，唯有儿子才可以永远住在家里。

你们接受的，不是奴仆的灵，使你们仍旧惧怕；你们接受的，是使人成为嗣子的灵，使我们呼叫“阿爸、父”。圣灵亲自和我们的灵一同证明我们是神的儿女。既然是儿女，就是后嗣；是神的后嗣，也和基督一同作后嗣。我们既然和他一同受苦，就必和他一同得荣耀。

那又怎么样呢？以色列人恳切寻找的，他们没有得到，蒙拣选的人倒得着了。其余的人都成了顽固的，正如经上所记：“神给了他们麻木的灵，有眼睛却看不见，有耳朵却听不到，直到今日。”大卫也说：“愿他们的筵席成为他们的网罗、陷阱、绊脚石和报应；愿他们的眼睛昏暗，不能看见；愿他们的背脊常常弯曲。”那么我要说，他们失足是要倒下去吗？绝对不是！反而因为他们的过犯，救恩就临到外族人，为了要激起他们奋发。

但圣经把所有的人都圈在罪中，好把那因信耶稣基督而来的应许，赐给相信的人。

神并没有丢弃他预先知道的子民。难道你们不知道在经上以利亚的话是怎样说的吗？他向神控诉以色列人：

圣经既然预先看见神要使外族人因信称义，就预先把好信息传给亚伯拉罕：“万国都必因你得福。”

经上怎么样说呢？“亚伯拉罕信神，这就算为他的义。”

圣经说：“神爱他那安置在我们里面的灵，爱到嫉妒的地步”（或译：“神安置在我们里面的灵，爱到嫉妒的地步”），你们想这话是徒然的吗？
