然而，那使女所生的是按着血氣生的；那自主之婦人所生的是憑着應許生的。

那出於使女的、是只按普通程序生的、而那出於自主婦人的、卻是憑着應許生的。

那出於女僕的是由肉體生的，那出於自由女人的是藉著應許生的。

婢出者、依形軀而生、自由出者、乃由應許焉、

婢出者、循人道、婦出者、因應許、

其由婢生者、循血氣而生、其由自主之婦生者、因應許而生、

然婢女之子、乃因肉情而生；而主婦之子、則憑恩諾而生。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.

But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

But the one by the slave was born according to the impulse of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born as the result of a promise.

But he[ who was] of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman[ was] by promise.

因着信，連撒拉自己，雖然過了生育的歲數，還能懷孕，因她以為那應許她的是可信的。

也不因為是亞伯拉罕的後裔就都作他的兒女；惟獨「從以撒生的才要稱為你的後裔。」這就是說，肉身所生的兒女不是神的兒女，惟獨那應許的兒女才算是後裔。

耶和華按着先前的話眷顧撒拉，便照他所說的給撒拉成就。當亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕；到神所說的日期，就給亞伯拉罕生了一個兒子。

三人中有一位說：「到明年這時候，我必要回到你這裏；你的妻子撒拉必生一個兒子。」撒拉在那人後邊的帳棚門口也聽見了這話。亞伯拉罕和撒拉年紀老邁，撒拉的月經已斷絕了。撒拉心裏暗笑，說：「我既已衰敗，我主也老邁，豈能有這喜事呢？」耶和華對亞伯拉罕說：「撒拉為甚麼暗笑，說：『我既已年老，果真能生養嗎？』耶和華豈有難成的事嗎？到了日期，明年這時候，我必回到你這裏，撒拉必生一個兒子。」

弟兄們，我們是憑着應許作兒女，如同以撒一樣。當時，那按着血氣生的逼迫了那按着聖靈生的，現在也是這樣。

他在無可指望的時候，因信仍有指望，就得以作多國的父，正如先前所說：「你的後裔將要如此。」他將近百歲的時候，雖然想到自己的身體如同已死，撒拉的生育已經斷絕，他的信心還是不軟弱；並且仰望神的應許，總沒有因不信心裏起疑惑，反倒因信心裏得堅固，將榮耀歸給神，且滿心相信神所應許的必能做成。

神又對亞伯拉罕說：「你的妻子撒萊不可再叫撒萊，她的名要叫撒拉。我必賜福給她，也要使你從她得一個兒子。我要賜福給她，她也要作多國之母；必有百姓的君王從她而出。」亞伯拉罕就俯伏在地喜笑，心裏說：「一百歲的人還能得孩子嗎？撒拉已經九十歲了，還能生養嗎？」亞伯拉罕對神說：「但願以實瑪利活在你面前。」神說：「不然，你妻子撒拉要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫以撒。我要與他堅定所立的約，作他後裔永遠的約。

他到底怎麼說呢？他說：這道離你不遠，正在你口裏，在你心裏－（就是我們所傳信主的道。）
