婢女的儿子是按着人的意愿生的，主母的儿子是按着上帝的应许生的。

然而，那使女所生的是按着血气生的；那自主之妇人所生的，是凭着应许生的。

那使女所生的是按着肉体生的；那自由的妇人所生的是凭着应许生的。

那使女所生的是按着肉体生的；那自由的妇人所生的是凭着应许生的。

但那出于婢女的，是按着肉体生的；那出于自由的妇人的，是凭着应许生的。

那出于女仆的是由肉体生的，那出于自由女人的是藉着应许生的。

然而，那使女所生的是按着血氣生的；那自主之婦人所生的是憑着應許生的。

婢出者、依形軀而生、自由出者、乃由應許焉、

婢出者、循人道、婦出者、因應許、

其由婢生者、循血氣而生、其由自主之婦生者、因應許而生、

然婢女之子、乃因肉情而生；而主婦之子、則憑恩諾而生。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.

But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

But the one by the slave was born according to the impulse of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born as the result of a promise.

撒拉过了生育年龄后凭信心仍然得到了孕育后代的能力，因为她认定赐她应许的上帝言出必行。

亚伯拉罕的后裔不一定都是亚伯拉罕的儿女，圣经上说：“以撒生的才可算为你的后裔。”这话的意思是：亚伯拉罕凭血气所生的儿女并不是上帝的儿女，只有凭应许所生的才算是他的后裔。

耶和华按着自己说过的话眷顾撒拉，实现给她的应许。亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕，在上帝指定的日期为他生了一个儿子。

其中一人说：“明年这时候，我会再来你这里，撒拉必生一个儿子。”这话被站在那人后面帐篷口的撒拉听见了。亚伯拉罕和撒拉已经年纪老迈，撒拉的月经也已经停了。撒拉暗自发笑，心想：“我已经这么老了，还会有这种福气吗？况且我的丈夫也很老了。”耶和华问亚伯拉罕：“撒拉为什么偷笑说，‘我这把年纪还会有孩子吗？’什么事难得住耶和华呢？明年这时候，我会再来你这里，撒拉必生一个儿子。”

弟兄姊妹，你们都像以撒一样是照着上帝的应许出生的。当时，那按着人的意愿生的儿子迫害那靠着圣灵生的儿子，现在的情况也和当时一样。

他在毫无指望的情况下仍然满怀盼望地相信上帝的应许，因而成为“万族之父”，正如上帝的应许：“你的后裔必这么多”。那时他将近百岁，知道自己身体如同已死，撒拉也过了生育的岁数，但他的信心仍然没有动摇。他没有因不信而怀疑上帝的应许，反倒信心更加坚定，将荣耀归给上帝。他完全相信上帝必能实现祂的应许。

上帝对亚伯拉罕说：“你的妻子以后不要叫撒莱，她的名字要叫撒拉。我必赐福给她，让她为你生一个儿子。她必成为万族的母亲，万民的君王必从她而出。”亚伯拉罕就俯伏在地，笑了起来，心想：“我一百岁了，还能有孩子吗？撒拉已经九十岁了，还能生养吗？”亚伯拉罕对上帝说：“愿以实玛利蒙你赐福。”上帝说：“不，你妻子撒拉必为你生一个儿子，你要给他取名叫以撒，我必向他和他的后代坚守我的约，直到永远。

其实这里是说：“这道近在咫尺，就在你口里，在你心中。”这道就是我们所传的信主之道。
