I fear for you that my work for you may have been in vain.

I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

I am afraid for you. I am afraid that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain.

I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing.

So when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter somehow tempted you and our toil had proven useless.

I went there because of a revelation and presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I did so only in a private meeting with the influential people, to make sure that I was not running– or had not run– in vain.

Listen! For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy, because I promised you in marriage to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his treachery, your minds may be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

But I thought,“ I have worked in vain; I have expended my energy for absolutely nothing.” But the LORD will vindicate me; my God will reward me.
