I just want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

But they didn’t all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says,“ Lord, who has believed our report?”So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

God, who knows the heart, testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like he did to us.

God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders, by various works of power and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?

He said to them,“ Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him,“ No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”He said,“ Into what then were you baptized?” They said,“ Into John’s baptism.”Paul said,“ John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke with other languages and prophesied.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,“ Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”

who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;

Peter said to them,“ Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you and does miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said,‘ John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying,“ Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”

For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

In him you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation— in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.

For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written,“ But the righteous shall live by faith.”

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all.For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;to another faith, by the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, by the same Spirit;and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.But the one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing to each one separately as he desires.For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.

To them it was revealed, that they served not to themselves, but to you, in these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we didn’t preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you didn’t receive, or a different“ good news”, which you didn’t accept, you put up with that well enough.
