如果繼業是本於律法，就不再是本於應許了；但是神把繼業賜給亞伯拉罕是藉著應許。

因为承受产业，若本乎律法，就不本乎应许；但神是凭着应许，把产业赐给亚伯拉罕。

若嗣業由律法、則非由應許、然天主乃以應許恩賜亞伯拉罕、

若云嗣業係據律法、則不復淵源於恩諾矣。然而嗣業、固天主所許於亞伯漢之恩賜也。

For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on the promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise.

For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

For if the inheritance could be received by keeping the law, then it would not be the result of accepting God’s promise. But God graciously gave it to Abraham as a promise.

For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise; but God has graciously given it to Abraham through the promise.

這樣，你們就不會變得懈怠，反而會效法那些藉著信仰和耐心去繼承各樣應許的人。神向亞伯拉罕應許的時候，因為沒有比自己更大的可以指著起誓，就指著自己起誓，說：「我必定大大賜福給你，多多地增加你的子孫。」這樣，亞伯拉罕恆久忍耐，就獲得了神所應許的。

原來，賜給亞伯拉罕和他後裔繼承世界的應許，不是藉著律法，而是藉著因信而得的義。這是因為，如果本於律法的才是繼承人，信就落了空，應許也就無效了。事實上，律法帶來了震怒，所以哪裡沒有律法，哪裡也就沒有過犯。為此，這應許是本於信，好使這應許照著恩典，能確保給所有的後裔——不僅是給屬律法的，也是給屬亞伯拉罕信心的。亞伯拉罕在神面前是我們每個人的父，

向我們的祖先施憐憫，不忘他神聖的約，就是向我們的先祖亞伯拉罕所起的誓，

既然是兒女，也就是繼承人；如果我們真是為了與他一同得榮耀而與他一同受苦，我們就是神的繼承人，而且與基督同做繼承人。

我不棄絕神的恩典，因為義如果是藉著律法而來的，那麼，基督就白白地死了。

因為你們藉著信，在基督耶穌裡，都是神的兒女。

神的各樣應許，原是對亞伯拉罕和他的一個後裔說的。神並沒有說「後裔們」，像是指著許多人；而是說「你的一個後裔」，像是指著一個人，這一位就是基督。

因為他記念他聖潔的話語，記念他的僕人亞伯拉罕。

凡是本於律法上行為的人，都在詛咒之下，因為經上記著：「任何人不持守、不遵行律法書上所記載的一切，都是被詛咒的。」

而且，如果你們屬於基督，你們就是亞伯拉罕的後裔，是照著應許的繼承人。

律法不是本於信，但是「遵行這些事的人，將因此而活。」

他扶助他的僕人以色列，不忘憐憫，正如他對我們祖先，對亞伯拉罕和他的後裔所說的，直到永遠。」
