You have heard how I lived earlier in my Jewish way of life. With all my strength I attacked the church of God. I tried to destroy it.

而掃羅則蹂躪教會、擅入人宅、逮捕男女信徒、下之於獄。

葆樂繼曰：『予乃猶太人、生於基利嘉之笪爾數、長於是邑、曾列迦瑪理門墻、向承祖宗嚴法、虔事天主、亦猶諸君之在今日也。對此「新道、」予亦曾加以凌迫、無所不用其極、逮捕信男信女、下之於獄。此固司祭長與諸父老能為予作證者也。予且曾領彼等致眾兄弟之書、往大馬士革、欲將彼處奉此道者、縛解耶路撒冷處刑；

予在宗徒中、為後生小子、實不堪稱為宗徒；以予曾窘辱聖教會故。

掃羅既抵耶路撒冷、欲與門徒相交、眾皆懼之、不信其為門徒也。

聞者異曰『耶路撒冷殘害呼籲斯名者、非斯人乎？此來非欲網弋若輩、以解司祭長乎？』

予自幼與國人相處、又曾寓耶路撒冷、其平生為人如何、猶太人率皆知之。彼倘肯作證、必知予自幼遵奉吾教中最嚴格之一宗、固法利塞也。

時掃羅氣燄逼人、必欲誅滅主之門徒。乃謁大司祭、求行文大馬士革各會堂、遇有此道中人、不論男女、盡縛解耶路撒冷。

予初亦以納匝勒人耶穌之名、應多方加以抨擊；此即予在耶路撒冷時之所行也。嘗受權於司祭長、逮捕聖徒多人下獄其定讞處死、予亦與焉；且屢於會堂中加以楚撻、意欲迫其發褻瀆之語；恨之既甚、逐之外邑。

亞拿尼亞曰：『主、歷聞人言、彼於耶路撒冷迫害聖徒、無所不用其極；近復受命於司祭長、有權縛解呼籲爾名者。』

我本為褻瀆天主、摧殘教會、倨傲無禮之人、而竟蒙天主之矜憐者、蓋以我當時未有信德、盲目而行耳。

以熱情論、固迫辱聖教會、不遺餘力者也。以守法論、固無懈可擊也。

自此耶路撒冷教會受迫益甚；宗徒而外、盡散處猶太沙瑪里各地。
