但是那遠離了我的、利未人當以色列人走迷了路時候，他們也走迷了路離開我、去隨從他們的偶像，他們須要擔受他們自己的罪罰。他們必須在我的聖地當僕役，照管殿門，在殿中供職；必須為人民宰燔祭牲和別的祭牲，站在人民面前伺候他們。因為這些利未人曾在他們的偶像面前伺候這人民，就成了絆腳物使以色列家陷於罪孽中；故此我舉手起誓論到他們，主永恆主發神諭說，他們須要擔受他們自己的罪罰。他們不可親近我，來給我供祭司的職分，也不可挨近我的任何聖物、至聖之物；他們乃是須要擔受他們自己的羞辱、和他們所行可厭惡之事的報應。然而我卻要派他們守着殿宇的職守，辦理其一切事務，作其一切當作的工。

於是祭司以利亞撒將被燒的人所獻過的銅香爐拿起來，人就給錘出來、去包祭壇，給以色列人做記念物，叫那不是亞倫後裔的平常人不至於走近前來、在永恆主面前燒香，免得像可拉和他一黨的人那樣子：這是照永恆主由摩西經手所告訴以利亞撒的。

你和你兒子們呢、卻要和你一同守盡你們的祭司職任、來辦一切屬於祭壇的事、和帷帳以內的事；你們要這樣辦事。我將你們的祭司職任做辦事的禮物給了你們；走近來非祭司的平常人就必須被處死。』
