In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:

It was the first year of the rule of Cyrus. He was king of Persia. The Lord inspired him to send a message all through his kingdom. It happened so that what the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah would come true. The message was written down. It said,

In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD roused the spirit of King Cyrus to issue a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom and to put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the LORD’S message spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD stirred the mind of King Cyrus of Persia. He disseminated a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom, announcing in a written edict the following:

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that Yahweh’s word by Jeremiah’s mouth might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

“耶和华这样说：‘为巴比伦所定的七十年满了以后，我必眷顾你们，向你们实行我满有恩惠的诺言，把你们带回这地方来。

他又使他们在所有掳掠他们的人面前，得蒙怜恤。

君王的心在耶和华手中，好像水沟的水，他可以随意转移。

“七十年满了以后，我要按着他们的罪孽惩罚巴比伦王和那国，就是迦勒底人之地，使它永远荒凉。”这是耶和华的宣告。“我必使我所说攻击那地的一切话应验在那地；我所说的，就是一切记录在这书上的，是耶利米攻击列国所说的预言。因为许多国家和大君王将要奴役迦勒底人，我必按着他们的作为和他们手所作的报应他们。”

然而在巴比伦王古列元年，古列王下令重建这神的殿。至于从前尼布甲尼撒从耶路撒冷的殿里掠夺，带到巴比伦庙里的神殿中的金银器皿，古列王也从巴比伦的庙中拿出来，把它们交给一位名叫设巴萨的人，委任他为总督。又吩咐他说：把这些器皿带去，存放在耶路撒冷的殿中；使神的殿在原来的地方重建起来。

他们欢欢喜喜地守除酵节七天，因为耶和华使他们欢喜，又使亚述王的心转向他们，坚固他们的手作以色列神殿的工程。

我必使犹大被掳的和以色列被掳的都归回，并且建立他们像起初一样。我必洁净他们得罪我的一切罪孽，并且赦免他们得罪我和悖逆我的一切罪孽。这城必在地上万国面前使我得名声，得喜乐（按照《马索拉文本》，“得名声，得喜乐”应作“得喜乐的名声”；现参照《七十士译本》翻译），得颂赞，得荣耀，因为万国必听见我向这城的人所施的一切福乐。他们因我向这城所施的一切福乐和平安，就都恐惧战兢。’“耶和华这样说：‘论到这地方，你们说：“这地荒废，没有人烟，也没有牲畜。”但在这荒凉、没有人烟、没有居民、也没有牲畜的犹大各城和耶路撒冷的街上，必再听见欢喜和快乐的声音，新郎和新妇的声音；还要听见那些带着感恩祭到耶和华殿的人的声音说：“你们要称谢万军之耶和华，因为耶和华是至善的，他的慈爱永远长存。”因为我必使这地被掳的归回，像起初一样。’”这是耶和华说的。“万军之耶和华这样说：‘在这荒废、没有人烟、没有牲畜的地方，和这地所有城中，必再有牧人放羊的牧场。在山地、高地和南地的各城，在便雅悯地，在耶路撒冷周围的各处，以及在犹大的各城里，必再有牧人数点经过手下的羊群。’”这是耶和华说的。

以斯拉说：“耶和华我们列祖的神是应该称颂的，因为他把这样的意念放在君王的心里，使他修饰那在耶路撒冷的耶和华的殿；

尼布甲尼撒在位第二年，他作了梦，因此心里烦乱，不能入睡。

那时，施洗的约翰出来，在犹太的旷野传道，说：“天国近了，你们应当悔改。”以赛亚先知所说：“在旷野有呼喊者的声音：‘预备主的道，修直他的路！’”就是指着这约翰说的。

他说：“我就是在旷野呼喊者的声音：‘修直主的路！’正如以赛亚先知所说的。”
