恶讯频传，山河破碎，我的帐篷忽然倒塌，幔子顷刻破裂。

因此，黑夜必笼罩你们，使你们看不见异象；幽暗必临到你们，使你们无法占卜。太阳要因你们而沉落，白昼变为黑夜。

我们再也看不到你的征兆，先知也没有了。无人知道这一切何时才会结束。

那时，几位以色列的长老到我这里来，坐在我面前。

后来，西底迦王派人把他带到自己的宫中，私下问他：“耶和华有什么话给你吗？”耶利米说：“有，你要被交在巴比伦王手中。”

他们说：“来！我们设计对付耶利米吧，反正我们有祭司教导律法，有智者出谋划策，有先知传讲预言。来吧！我们抨击他，不要理会他的话。”

第七年五月十日，有几个以色列的长老来到我这里，坐在我面前。耶和华对我说：“人子啊，你要告诉他们，主耶和华这样说，‘你们是来求问我吗？我凭我的永恒起誓，我决不让你们求问。’

“请你为我们求问耶和华，因为巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒来攻打我们，或许耶和华会像以往一样行神迹，使敌人撤军。”

你必大祸临头，不知如何祛灾避祸。灾祸必落在你身上，无可挽回。你意想不到的祸患必突然来到。

“如果你们受过这些惩罚，仍然不知悔改，我要把比先前严厉七倍的惩罚加在你们身上。

他们随着人群来到你面前，坐着聆听你的话，俨然像我的子民。但他们不付诸实行，嘴里说的是甜言蜜语，心中却追求不义之财。

“‘我要使灾祸连连临到他们，我的箭都射向他们。

主耶和华说：“日子将到，我要使饥荒降在地上。人饥饿非因无饼，干渴非因无水，而是因为听不到耶和华的话。人们从南到北，从东到西，在境内四处流荡，要寻找耶和华的话却找不到。

第六年六月五日，我正在家中与犹大的众长老同坐，主耶和华的能力降在我身上。

西底迦王派人把耶利米先知带到耶和华殿的第三道门那里与他会面。他对耶利米说：“我要问你一件事，你不可隐瞒。”耶利米说：“我若从实禀告，你一定会杀我。我就是给你建议，你也不会听。”于是，他私下向耶利米发誓说：“我凭那赐给我们生命的永活的耶和华起誓，我决不杀你，也不把你交在想杀你的人手中。”耶利米说：“以色列的上帝——万军之上帝耶和华说，‘如果你出去向巴比伦王的将领投降，就可以保住你和你全家的性命，这城也不会被烧毁。但如果你不出去向巴比伦王的将领投降，这城必落在迦勒底人手里，被付之一炬，你也逃不掉。’”西底迦王说：“我害怕那些已经向迦勒底人投降的犹大人，恐怕迦勒底人会把我交给他们，任由他们羞辱。”耶利米说：“不会的。只要你听从耶和华吩咐我对你说的话，你就可以平安无事，保全性命。耶和华已指示我，如果你不肯投降，所有留在犹大王宫的妇女都必被巴比伦王的将领俘虏，她们会讽刺你说，‘你被好友欺骗、误导，当你陷入泥潭时，他们就离弃了你。’“你的嫔妃和儿女必被交给迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比伦王所擒。这城也要被付之一炬。”西底迦说：“不可让人知道我们的谈话，否则你会丧命。如果有官长知道我曾与你会面，前来以死亡相威胁，逼你说出我们谈话的内容。你可以告诉他们，你是在求我不要把你押回约拿单的房子，以免死在那里。”果然，官长前来查问耶利米，他就照王的吩咐回复他们，他们便不再追问，因为他跟王的谈话无人知道。耶利米被囚在护卫兵的院子里，一直到耶路撒冷沦陷。

“如果你们仍然与我作对，不肯听从我，我要把比先前严重七倍的灾难降在你们身上。

锡安的城门陷入地中，主摧毁、砍断她的门闩。她的君王和首领流落异乡，律法不复存在，她的先知得不到从耶和华而来的异象。

我也要与你们作对，用比先前严重七倍的灾难击打你们。
