Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth,[ though] he hide it under his tongue;[ Though] he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:[ Yet] his meat in his bowels is turned,[ it is] the gall of asps within him.He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper’s tongue shall slay him.He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow[ it] down: according to[ his] substance[ shall] the restitution[ be], and he shall not rejoice[ therein].Because he hath oppressed[ and] hath forsaken the poor;[ because] he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.[ When] he is about to fill his belly,[ God] shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain[ it] upon him while he is eating.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink,[ and] be merry.But God said unto him,[ Thou] fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

Wherefore do ye spend money for[ that which is] not bread? and your labour for[ that which] satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye[ that which is] good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made[ each one] for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this[ is] also vanity.

They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat[ was] yet in their mouths,The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen[ men] of Israel.

And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it[ was], and fled for their life.And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid[ it]; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence[ also], and went and hid[ it].

And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way[ was] full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.
