堅守按教訓所傳可信可靠之道，好使他能用健全的教義勸勉人，又能使頂撞的人自知有罪。有許多不服約束、好談虛妄事、欺騙人的人，尤其是那些受過割禮的人，你應該勒住他們的口。這種人為了可恥之利、教授所不該教授的，傾覆了人的全家。

但主的僕人卻不應該好爭吵，應該溫和柔順以待眾人，善於教導，能忍受苦害，能用柔和矯正對抗的人。或者上帝給他們悔改的心，得以認識真理；

『萬軍之永恆主這麼說：你要向祭司問禮節的規矩說：「若有人用衣襟兜聖肉，這衣襟觸着餅、或湯、或酒、或油、或是任何食物，這些食物便算為聖麼？」』祭司回答說：『不算為聖。』哈該又說：『若有因死人而不潔淨的觸着這些東西的任何一件，這東西算為不潔淨麼？』祭司回答說：『該算為不潔淨。』

他們必將你的典章指教雅各，將你的律法指教以色列；他們必使燻祭的香氣升到你面前，把全燔祭放在你的祭壇上。

雅各家的首領啊，你們要聽這話；以色列家的官長啊，你們要留心聽；你們這些厭惡公平、屈枉一切正直、以人血建造錫安，以罪孽建築耶路撒冷的。其首領、為了賄賂而行審判，其祭司為了雇價而指教禮節，其神言人為了銀錢而行占卜，居然倚靠永恆主而宣稱說：『永恆主不是在我們中間麼？災禍必不會臨到我們。』

對的禮節規矩在他口中，不義的話不在他嘴裏；他以平和正直與我同行，使許多人回轉、離開罪孽。因為祭司嘴裏應當保存着知識，人也應該從他口中尋求禮節規矩，因為他是萬軍之永恆主的使者。但你們卻偏離了正路，使許多人在禮節規矩上跌倒；你們破壞了我與利未所立的約：永恆主說。故此我、我也使你們被眾民藐視，看為下賤，因為你們沒有謹守我的道路，竟在禮節規矩上瞻徇情面。』
