如果有人無可指摘，只作一個妻子的丈夫，兒女都信主，也沒有人控告他們放蕩或不受約束，才可以作長老。

照樣，他們的妻子（“他們的妻子”可解作“女執事”）也要莊重，不說讒言，有節制，凡事忠心。執事只可以作一個妻子的丈夫，善於管理兒女和自己的家。

所以作監督的，必須無可指摘，只作一個妻子的丈夫，有節制，自律，莊重，樂意接待客旅，善於教導，

好好管理自己的家，使兒女凡事敬重順服。（人若不知道怎樣管理自己的家，怎能照料神的教會呢？）
