「人子啊，你拿一根杖來，寫上『猶大和他的以色列同伴』，然後再拿另一根杖，寫上『約瑟，即以法蓮，與他的以色列同伴』。

“人子啊，你要取一根木杖，在其上写‘为犹大和他的同伴以色列人’；又取一根木杖，在其上写‘为约瑟，就是为以法莲，又为他的同伴以色列全家’。

“人子啊，你要取一根木杖，在其上写‘为犹大和他的盟友以色列人’；又取一根木杖，在其上写‘为约瑟，就是以法莲的杖，和他的盟友以色列全家’。

“人子啊，你要取一根木杖，在其上写‘为犹大和他的盟友以色列人’；又取一根木杖，在其上写‘为约瑟，就是以法莲的杖，和他的盟友以色列全家’。

“人子啊，你拿一根杖来，写上‘犹大和他的以色列同伴’，然后再拿另一根杖，写上‘约瑟，即以法莲，与他的以色列同伴’。

“人子啊！你要拿一根木杖，在上面寫‘猶大和那些與他一起的以色列人’；又拿另一根木杖，在上面寫‘以法蓮的木杖，就是約瑟和與他一起的以色列全家’。

『人子啊，你要取一根木棍，上面寫上：「代表猶大和跟他聯合的以色列人」；又取一根木棍，上面寫上：「代表約瑟（以法蓮）和跟他聯合的以色列全家」。

“ Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it,‘ Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it,‘ Belonging to Joseph( that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’

“ Son of man, get a stick of wood. Write on it,‘ Belonging to the tribe of Judah and the Israelites who are connected with it.’ Then get another stick. Write on it,‘ Ephraim’s stick. Belonging to the tribes of Joseph and all the Israelites connected with them.’

“ Son of man, take a stick and write on it,‘ For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph( the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’

“ Son of man, take a piece of wood and carve on it these words:‘ This represents Judah and its allied tribes.’ Then take another piece and carve these words on it:‘ This represents Ephraim and the northern tribes of Israel.’

“ Son of man, take a single stick and write on it: Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph— the stick of Ephraim— and all the house of Israel associated with him.

“ Now you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write on it,‘ For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’

“ As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it:‘ For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’

“ As for you, son of man, take one branch, and write on it,‘ For Judah, and for the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another branch and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the branch of Ephraim and all the house of Israel associated with him.’

“ You, son of man, take one stick, and write on it,‘ For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions.’ Then take another stick, and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions.’

當時，有許多以法蓮人、瑪拿西人和西緬人看見亞撒的上帝耶和華與他同在，就從以色列來投奔他，寄居在猶大。亞撒把他們和所有的猶大人與便雅憫人都招聚在一起。

但住在猶大城邑的以色列人仍受羅波安統治。

從此，以色列人反叛大衛家，直到今天。

「你叫以色列各支派的首領每人拿一根杖來，共十二根，你要在上面寫上他們各人的名字。你要把亞倫的名字寫在利未支派的杖上，每個支派的首領都要有一根杖。

以色列人見王不聽他們的請求，就說：「我們與大衛有何相干？我們與耶西的兒子沒有關係！以色列人啊，各自回家吧！大衛家啊，自己照顧自己吧！」於是，以色列人各自回家了。但住在猶大城邑的以色列人仍受羅波安統治。羅波安王派勞役總管亞多蘭去以色列人那裡，以色列人卻用石頭打死了他，羅波安王連忙上車逃回耶路撒冷。從此，以色列人反叛大衛家，一直到今天。以色列人聽說耶羅波安回來了，就請他到會眾面前，擁立他做以色列人的王。只有猶大支派仍然效忠大衛家。

他又在各城池加強防禦，派將領駐守，供給食物、油和酒。他在城內儲備盾牌和矛槍，使城池非常堅固。猶大和便雅憫都歸屬他。以色列全境的祭司和利未人都從四面八方來投奔羅波安。利未人撇下他們的草場和產業，來到猶大和耶路撒冷，因為耶羅波安和他的眾子不准他們做祭司事奉耶和華。耶羅波安卻為邱壇、公山羊像和他造的牛犢像設立他自己的祭司。以色列各支派中那些誠心尋求以色列的上帝耶和華的人，都跟隨利未人到耶路撒冷獻祭給他們祖先的上帝耶和華。他們使猶大國堅固，他們效忠所羅門的兒子羅波安三年之久，並在此期間遵行大衛和所羅門的道。

然而，有些亞設人、瑪拿西人和西布倫人謙卑悔改，來到耶路撒冷。耶和華上帝感動猶大人，使他們一心遵從王與眾官員奉祂的指示所下的命令。二月，大群的人聚到耶路撒冷守除酵節。他們除去耶路撒冷的祭壇和所有香壇，把它們丟進汲淪溪。二月十四日，他們宰了逾越節的羊羔。祭司和利未人覺得慚愧，就潔淨自己，把燔祭帶到耶和華的殿裡，然後照上帝的僕人摩西的律法照常供職。祭司從利未人手中接過血，灑在壇上。因為會眾中間有許多人沒有潔淨自己，利未人就為所有不潔之人宰逾越節的羊羔獻給耶和華。有許多以法蓮人、瑪拿西人、以薩迦人和西布倫人沒有潔淨自己就吃了逾越節的羊羔，違背了律法的規定。希西迦就為他們禱告說：「凡誠心尋求他祖先的上帝耶和華的人，雖然沒有照聖所的律例潔淨自己，願良善的耶和華赦免他！」
