「人子啊，我派你去那背叛我的以色列人那裡。他們和他們的祖先至今仍背叛我。我派你到那些頑固不化的人那裡，向他們宣告，『主耶和華這樣說。』不管那群叛逆的人聽不聽，他們都會知道有一位先知在他們當中。人子啊，不要怕他們和他們的話，雖然你周圍佈滿荊棘和毒蠍，也不要害怕。他們是一群叛逆的人，你不要怕他們的話，也不要因為他們的臉色而驚慌。他們是叛逆的，不論他們聽不聽，你都要把我的話告訴他們。「人子啊，你要聽我對你說的話，不要像他們那樣叛逆，要張開口吃我賜給你的。」

你們憎恨在城門口主持公道的人，厭惡正直的人。

因此，黑夜必籠罩你們，使你們看不見異象；幽暗必臨到你們，使你們無法占卜。太陽要因你們而沉落，白晝變為黑夜。假先見必抱愧，占卜者必蒙羞。因得不到上帝的答覆，你們必羞愧地捂著臉。」

諸天啊，請聽！大地啊，要側耳聽！耶和華說：「我把孩子撫育成人，他們竟然背叛我。

以法蓮與偶像為伍，任由他吧！

現在，你要做好準備，去把我吩咐你的話告訴他們。不要懼怕他們，不然我將使你在他們面前充滿恐懼。

錫安的城門陷入地中，主摧毀、砍斷她的門閂。她的君王和首領流落異鄉，律法不復存在，她的先知得不到從耶和華而來的異象。

我說的這些話到時候必定應驗。但因為你不肯相信我的話，所以這事成就以前，你將變成啞巴，不能說話。」人們在等候撒加利亞，見他在聖殿裡遲遲不出來，都感到奇怪。後來他出來了，卻成了啞巴，不能說話，只能打手勢，大家意識到他在聖殿裡看見了異象。

別讓驕傲人的腳踐踏我，別讓兇惡人的手驅趕我。看啊！惡人已經摔倒在地，再也爬不起來。

主耶和華說：「日子將到，我要使饑荒降在地上。人饑餓非因無餅，乾渴非因無水，而是因為聽不到耶和華的話。人們從南到北，從東到西，在境內四處流蕩，要尋找耶和華的話卻找不到。
