你宣讀完這書卷以後，要把一塊石頭和書拴在一起，丟進幼發拉底河裡，然後說：‘巴比倫必因耶和華（“耶和華”原文作“我”）所要降給它的災禍，照樣沉下去，不再浮上來；它的人民也必滅沒。’”耶利米的話到此為止。

他必挫折眾領袖的傲氣，他必使地上的君王畏懼他。

販賣這些貨物，藉著她發了財的商人，因為害怕她受的痛苦，就遠遠地站著，痛哭悲哀，說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！就是一向穿著細麻布、紫色、朱紅色的衣服，佩戴著金子、寶石和珍珠裝飾的，一時之間，這麼大的財富竟蕩然無存！’“所有船長、旅客、水手，以及凡是靠海謀生的，都遠遠地站著。他們看見了焚燒她的煙，就喊叫說：‘有哪一座城能與這大城相比呢？’他們又把塵土撒在自己頭上，痛哭悲哀，喊著說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！凡是有船航行海上的，都因這城的財寶發了財；一時之間她竟成了荒場！’

有一位大力的天使，把一塊好像大磨石一樣的石頭，舉起來拋在海裡，說：“巴比倫大城也必這樣被猛力地拋下去，決不能再找到了！

我必使你成為光滑的磐石；你必成為曬網的地方；你必不再被建造，因為我耶和華已經說了。這是主耶和華的宣告。’

那些看見你的，都必定睛看你，他們必注視著你，說：‘那使大地震動，使列國搖撼，使世界如同荒野，傾覆城鎮，又不釋放囚犯的，就是這人嗎？’列國的君王都在榮耀中安睡，各在自己的墳墓裡。但你要從你的墳墓中被逐出，好像一根被厭棄的樹枝，你被那些遭刀劍所殺的人掩蓋，就是那些被拋到坑中石頭那裡的人。你就像一具遭人踐踏的屍體。

“地上的眾王，就是跟她一同行邪淫、驕奢無度的，看見焚燒她的煙的時候，就必為她痛哭捶胸。他們因為害怕她所受的痛苦，就遠遠地站著，說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城，巴比倫，這堅固的城啊！一時之間你的審判就來到了！’

沿海地帶所有的居民都因你驚駭；他們的君王都極其恐慌，面容扭曲。各族的商人都嗤笑你；你必遭遇可怕的災禍，你就永遠不再存在了。’”
