斯邑勞力致疲、其銹仍未滌除、必炙以火、

欲淨斯鼎、力瘁心勞、鼎銹斑駁、去之不易、故炙以火、

淨此釜之銹、劬勞疲乏、原文作此釜劬勞自倦銹仍未除、銹跡必除以火、

It has frustrated all efforts; its heavy deposit has not been removed, not even by fire.

But it can’t be cleaned up. Its thick scum has not been removed. Even fire can’t burn it off.

She has wearied herself with toil; its abundant corrosion does not go out of it. Into the fire with its corrosion!

But it’s hopeless; the corruption can’t be cleaned out. So throw it into the fire.

It has frustrated every effort; its thick corrosion will not come off. Into the fire with its corrosion!

She has wearied Me with work, Yet her great rust has not gone from her; Let her rust be in the fire!

She has grown weary with lies, And her great scum has not gone from her. Let her scum be in the fire!

She hath wearied herself with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust goeth not forth by fire.

It has frustrated every effort; its thick rust will not come off. Into the fire with its rust!

Friends deceive each other, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves commiting iniquity.

As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come on us. Yet we have not entreated the favor of Yahweh our God, that we should turn from our iniquities and have discernment in your truth.Therefore Yahweh has watched over the evil, and brought it on us; for Yahweh our God is righteous in all his works which he does, and we have not obeyed his voice.

“ For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.

O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

Behold, isn’t it of Yahweh of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

Yahweh of Armies says:“ The wide walls of Babylon will be utterly overthrown. Her high gates will be burned with fire. The peoples will labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they will be weary.”

“‘“ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you weren’t cleansed, you won’t be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.

Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

You went to the king with oil, increased your perfumes, sent your ambassadors far off, and degraded yourself even to Sheol.You were wearied with the length of your ways; yet you didn’t say,‘ It is in vain.’ You found a reviving of your strength; therefore you weren’t faint.

You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Now let the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators, stand up and save you from the things that will happen to you.

Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil.Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.Yahweh said,“ I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground— man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky— for I am sorry that I have made them.”

Every man has become brutish and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish.

“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in Yahweh’s name, we will not listen to you.But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

Yahweh smelled the pleasant aroma. Yahweh said in his heart,“ I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. I will never again strike every living thing, as I have done.

“ What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols?Woe to him who says to the wood,‘ Awake!’ or to the mute stone,‘ Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.

“‘ Therefore the Lord Yahweh says:“ Woe to the bloody city, to the cauldron whose rust is in it, and whose rust hasn’t gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece. No lot is fallen on it.

Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
