The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

“ In that day there will be a spring opened to David’s house and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.It will come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they will be remembered no more. I will also cause the prophets and the spirit of impurity to pass out of the land.

They will also strip you of your clothes, and take away your beautiful jewels.Thus I will make your lewdness to cease from you, and remove your prostitution from the land of Egypt; so that you will not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.’

But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or stubble,each man’s work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man’s work is.

For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and only wounded men remained among them, they would each rise up in his tent and burn this city with fire.’”

I will scatter you among the nations, and disperse you through the countries. I will consume your filthiness out of you.You will be profaned in yourself, in the sight of the nations. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”’”Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,“ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me. All of them are bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the middle of the furnace. They are the dross of silver.Therefore the Lord Yahweh says:‘ Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the middle of Jerusalem.As they gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you.Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you will be melted in the middle of it.As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you will be melted in the middle of it; and you will know that I, Yahweh, have poured out my wrath on you.’”Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your filthiness, and from all your idols.

I will turn my hand on you, thoroughly purge away your dross, and will take away all your tin.

I will purge out from among you the rebels and those who disobey me. I will bring them out of the land where they live, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”

But if you will not go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you won’t escape out of their hand.’”

The company will stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords. They will kill their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.“‘ Thus I will cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to be lewd like you.

Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherah poles and the incense altars shall rise no more.

It shall happen that in all the land,” says Yahweh,“ two parts in it will be cut off and die; but the third will be left in it.I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say,‘ It is my people;’ and they will say,‘ Yahweh is my God.’”
