他心想：“国权恐怕会重归大卫家。若百姓去耶路撒冷，在耶和华的殿献祭，他们的心必重新归向他们的主——犹大王罗波安。他们会杀了我，然后投奔犹大王罗波安。”他征询臣僚的意见后，就铸造了两个金牛犊，对民众说：“以色列人啊，你们上耶路撒冷敬拜太麻烦了。这两个金牛犊就是领你们出埃及的神明。”他把一个金牛犊安置在伯特利，另一个安置在但。这使民众陷入罪中，因为他们开始到但去拜金牛犊。耶罗波安又在高岗上修建神庙，任命各样的人做祭司，他们并非利未人。耶罗波安规定每年八月十五日为节期，好像犹大的节期一样。他自己在伯特利的祭坛上向金牛犊献祭烧香，又派神庙的祭司在献祭中司职。在八月十五日，就是他私自为以色列人定为节期的日子，他在伯特利的祭坛上烧香。

以色列人听说耶罗波安回来了，就请他到会众面前，拥立他做以色列人的王。只有犹大支派仍然效忠大卫家。

祂的家在耶路撒冷，祂的居所在锡安山。

愿你昼夜看顾这殿——你应许立你名的地方！你仆人向着这地方祷告的时候，求你垂听。

你还把你给我生的儿女烧作燔祭献给偶像。难道你淫乱还不够吗？

“你去告诉耶路撒冷人，‘耶和华说，我记得你们年轻时对我充满热情，爱我如新娘爱新郎，跟随我穿越旷野，穿越不毛之地。以色列是耶和华的圣民，是属于祂的初熟果子。吞吃它的必担当罪责，大祸临头。这是耶和华说的。’”

王喜欢你的美貌，你要敬重他，因他是你的主。泰尔人必来送礼，富人必来取悦你。公主身穿金线衣，无比华贵。她身披锦绣，由侍女伴随前来见王，她们欢喜快乐地进入王宫。你的子孙将来要继承祖先的王位，你要立他们在各地做王。

他们要聚众攻击你，用石头打你，用刀剑砍碎你，

我的弟兄姊妹，同样，你们借着基督的身体向着律法也死了，使你们可以归于那位从死里复活的基督，好为上帝结果子。
