他見無人拯救，無人代求，甚為詫異，就用自己的膀臂施行拯救，以公義扶持自己。

所以，他說要滅絕他們；若非有他所揀選的摩西站在當中，使他的忿怒轉消，恐怕他就滅絕他們。

你且由着我，我要向他們發烈怒，將他們滅絕，使你的後裔成為大國。」摩西便懇求耶和華－他的神說：「耶和華啊，你為甚麼向你的百姓發烈怒呢？這百姓是你用大力和大能的手從埃及地領出來的。為甚麼使埃及人議論說『他領他們出去，是要降禍與他們，把他們殺在山中，將他們從地上除滅』？求你轉意，不發你的烈怒，後悔，不降禍與你的百姓。求你記念你的僕人亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列。你曾指着自己起誓說：『我必使你們的後裔像天上的星那樣多，並且我所應許的這全地，必給你們的後裔，他們要永遠承受為業。』」於是耶和華後悔，不把所說的禍降與他的百姓。

耶和華對我說：「雖有摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不顧惜這百姓。你將他們從我眼前趕出，叫他們去吧！

沒有上去堵擋破口，也沒有為以色列家重修牆垣，使他們當耶和華的日子在陣上站立得住。

我仰望，見無人幫助；我詫異，沒有人扶持。所以，我自己的膀臂為我施行拯救；我的烈怒將我扶持。

亞伯拉罕近前來，說：「無論善惡，你都要剿滅嗎？假若那城裏有五十個義人，你還剿滅那地方嗎？不為城裏這五十個義人饒恕其中的人嗎？將義人與惡人同殺，將義人與惡人一樣看待，這斷不是你所行的。審判全地的主豈不行公義嗎？」耶和華說：「我若在所多瑪城裏見有五十個義人，我就為他們的緣故饒恕那地方的眾人。」亞伯拉罕說：「我雖然是灰塵，還敢對主說話。假若這五十個義人短了五個，你就因為短了五個毀滅全城嗎？」他說：「我在那裏若見有四十五個，也不毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕又對他說：「假若在那裏見有四十個怎麼樣呢？」他說：「為這四十個的緣故，我也不做這事。」亞伯拉罕說：「求主不要動怒，容我說，假若在那裏見有三十個怎麼樣呢？」他說：「我在那裏若見有三十個，我也不做這事。」亞伯拉罕說：「我還敢對主說話，假若在那裏見有二十個怎麼樣呢？」他說：「為這二十個的緣故，我也不毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕說：「求主不要動怒，我再說這一次，假若在那裏見有十個呢？」他說：「為這十個的緣故，我也不毀滅那城。」
