“‘ Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water.

“‘ Israel, you were like a vine in a vineyard. It was planted near water. It had a lot of fruit and many branches. There was plenty of water.

For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of streams of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in valleys and hills;

Like valleys that stretch out, Like gardens beside a river, Like aloes planted by the Lord, Like cedars beside the waters.Water will flow from his buckets, And his seed will be by many waters, And his king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted.

“ Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and he leased it to vine growers and went on a journey.And when the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine growers to receive his fruit.And the vine growers took his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again, he sent other slaves, more than the first; and they did the same things to them.But afterward he sent his son to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But when the vine growers saw the son, they said among themselves,‘ This is the heir; come, let’s kill him and take possession of his inheritance!’And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine growers?”They* said to Him,“ He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other vine growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.”

Then it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine with its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it. So it became a vine and produced shoots and sent out branches.

I will also place his hand on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers.He will call to Me,‘ You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’I will also make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth.I will maintain My favor for him forever, And My covenant shall be confirmed to him.So I will establish his descendants forever, And his throne as the days of heaven.

and say,‘ What was your mother? A lioness among lions! She lay down among young lions, She raised her cubs.

For their mother has committed prostitution; She who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said,‘ I will go after my lovers, Who give me my bread and my water, My wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’

Let me sing now for my beloved A song of my beloved about His vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill.He dug it all around, cleared it of stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. And He built a tower in the middle of it, And also carved out a wine vat in it; Then He expected it to produce good grapes, But it produced only worthless ones.“ And now, you inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, Judge between Me and My vineyard.What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones?

“ Dispute with your mother, dispute, Because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband; But she must remove her infidelity from her face And her adultery from between her breasts,

“ Son of man, how is the wood of the vine better than any wood of a branch which is among the trees of the forest?Can wood be taken from it to make anything, or can even a peg be taken from it on which to hang any utensil?If it has been put into the fire for fuel, and the fire has consumed both of its ends and its middle part has been charred, is it then good for anything?Behold, while it is intact, it is not made into anything. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it still be made into anything!Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:‘ As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem;and I set My face against them. Though they have come out of the fire, yet the fire will consume them. Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I set My face against them.So I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’ ” declares the Lord God.

a land where you will eat food without shortage, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
