“‘又有一只大鹰飞来，翅膀宽大，羽毛丰满。这葡萄树把根和枝子转向这只鹰，渴望得到它的浇灌。

王不可拥有大量马匹，也不可派人到埃及去购买马匹，因为耶和华已经告诉你们不可回埃及。

但如果你不出去向巴比伦王的将领投降，这城必落在迦勒底人手里，被付之一炬，你也逃不掉。’”

你必逃不出巴比伦王的手心，你必在他面前受审，被带到巴比伦。

因此，耶和华向耶路撒冷和犹大的人发怒，把他们从祂面前赶走。后来，西底迦背叛了巴比伦王。

他起誓降服，却弃约背誓，所以绝不能逃避后果。

“你的嫔妃和儿女必被交给迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比伦王所擒。这城也要被付之一炬。”

“你要告诉他们，主耶和华这样说，‘这树能长得枝繁叶茂吗？难道那鹰不把它连根拔起，摘掉它的果子，使树和嫩叶全部枯萎吗？不必费多大力气，也不需要多少人就可以把它连根拔起。

那时，法老的军队已从埃及出发，正在围攻耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见消息就退兵了。耶和华对耶利米先知说：“这是以色列的上帝耶和华的话，‘犹大王派你们来求问我，你们告诉他，前来支援你们的法老军队必中途返回埃及，

犹大王西底迦逃不出迦勒底人的手，必成为巴比伦王的阶下囚，被他审问、

你这邪恶败坏的以色列首领啊！你的结局到了，审判你的日子来了。’

我们若忽略了这么大的救恩，怎能逃避惩罚呢？这救恩首先由主亲口宣讲出来，后来由听见的人向我们证实了。

为要接受你们的上帝耶和华与你们立的誓约。这样，祂今天将宣告你们是祂的子民、祂是你们的上帝，正如祂对你们的应许和对你们祖先亚伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的誓言。耶和华的这誓约不仅是与你们立的，也是与今天一同站在我们的上帝耶和华面前的人，以及今天不在这里的人立的。

耶和华说：“我悖逆的儿女有祸了！他们不遵行我的旨意，按自己的计划行事；未经我同意，擅自与人结盟，不断犯罪。他们不求问我便去埃及，想得到法老的保护和荫庇。然而，法老的保护和荫庇必成为他们的耻辱。虽然他们的官长和使臣已到琐安和哈内斯，

上帝啊，你必把恶人送进灭亡的坑里。嗜血成性的骗子必早早夭亡。但我要信靠你。

那些到埃及寻求帮助的人有祸了！他们仰赖战马，倚靠众多的战车和强壮的骑兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，不寻求耶和华。然而，耶和华有智慧，会降灾，从不收回自己的话。祂必惩罚恶人之家及其帮凶。埃及人不过是人，并非上帝；埃及的战马是血肉之躯，并非神灵。耶和华一伸手，那些帮凶必踉跄，受帮助的必跌倒，他们必一同灭亡。

大地啊，大地啊，大地啊，要听耶和华的话！耶和华说：“你要把这人作为无儿无女、一生失败的人记录下来，因为他的后裔中无一人能成功地继承大卫的宝座，统治犹大。”

你们这些蛇，这些毒蛇的后代啊，你们怎能逃脱地狱的刑罚呢？

作伪证者难免受罚，撒谎的人罪责难逃。

看啊，你所倚靠的埃及不过是一根破裂的芦苇，倚靠它的必被刺破手。倚靠埃及王法老的下场都是这样。’也许你说，‘我们倚靠我们的上帝耶和华。’希西迦不是拆毁了祂的庙宇和祭坛，又吩咐犹大和耶路撒冷的人只能在这座祭坛前敬拜吗？来，跟我主人亚述王打个赌，你若能找到两千骑士，我就给你两千匹马！你们即使依靠埃及的战车和骑兵，又怎能打败我主人的一个最小的将领呢？
