使犹大国臣服于他，无法图强，只能遵守盟约，以求生存。

He did it to bring down their kingdom. It would not rise again. In fact, it would be able to last only by keeping his treaty.

我照耶和华的吩咐对犹大王西底迦说：“你们要负巴比伦王的轭，臣服于他和他的人民，这样你们就可存活。你和你的人民何必死于战争、饥荒和瘟疫呢？耶和华要降这些灾难给不肯臣服于巴比伦王的国家。不要听信那些先知骗人的预言，他们说巴比伦王不会征服你们。耶和华并没有派他们，他们却奉祂的名说假预言。如果你们听信他们的话，耶和华必把你们和假先知赶走，使你们一同灭亡。”我也对祭司和全体民众说：“耶和华说，‘你们不要听信假先知骗人的预言，他们说耶和华殿里的器皿很快就要从巴比伦运回来了。你们不可听信他们的话。你们要臣服于巴比伦王，以便存活。何必使这城沦为废墟呢？

树苗很快发了芽，成了向四面蔓延的矮小葡萄树，根深叶茂，枝子向着鹰伸展开去。

那么请告诉我们，纳税给凯撒对不对呢？”耶稣看出了他们的恶意，就说：“你们这些伪君子，为什么试探我呢？拿一个纳税用的钱币来给我看。”他们就拿给祂一个银币。耶稣问他们：“上面刻的是谁的像和名号？”他们说：“凯撒的。”耶稣说：“那么，属于凯撒的东西应该给凯撒，属于上帝的东西应该给上帝。”

“所以，以色列的上帝耶和华宣告说，‘我曾经应许让你们家族永远做我的祭司。’但现在耶和华宣布，‘这绝不可能了。尊重我的，我必尊重他；藐视我的，必遭藐视。

“你们中间的外族人要日益兴旺，你们却要日渐衰微。

今天，我们沦为奴隶，在你赐给我们祖先的土地上，在你让我们祖先享用其出产和各样美物的土地上，我们沦为奴隶。因为我们的罪过，这地方的丰富出产都归给了那些你派来统管我们的王。他们随意统管我们和我们的牲畜。我们生活在极大的苦难中。
