“ Here is the sin your sister Sodom committed. She and her daughters were proud. They ate too much. They were not concerned about others. They did not help those who were poor and in need.

Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.

Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.

Now this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters had pride, plenty of food, and comfortable security, but didn’t support the poor and needy.

Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, plenty of food, and carefree ease, but she did not help the poor and needy.

Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Now this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, plenty of food, and comfortable security, but didn’t support the poor and needy.

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

“‘ See here– this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters had majesty, abundance of food, and enjoyed carefree ease, but they did not help the poor and needy.

“‘“ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters. She also didn’t strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar.

Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt.( This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

“ Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ In the pride of your heart you say,“ I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.” But you are a mere mortal and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.

And he told them this parable:“ The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest.He thought to himself,‘ What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’“ Then he said,‘ This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

He does not oppress anyone or require a pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.

He oppresses the poor and needy. He commits robbery. He does not return what he took in pledge. He looks to the idols. He does detestable things.

he said,“ Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

Will you then say,“ I am a god,” in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a mortal, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you.

“ Get out of our way,” they replied.“ This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

We have heard of Moab’s pride— how great is her arrogance!— of her conceit, her pride and her insolence; but her boasts are empty.

Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior.

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Hear this, you who trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land,saying,“ When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat?”— skimping on the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales,buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the sweepings with the wheat.

Speak to him and say:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, you great monster lying among your streams. You say,“ The Nile belongs to me; I made it for myself.”

But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine!“ Let us eat and drink,” you say,“ for tomorrow we die!”The Lord Almighty has revealed this in my hearing:“ Till your dying day this sin will not be atoned for,” says the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.

Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.

Then the Lord said,“ The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the unplowed field of the wicked— produce sin.

You put off the day of disaster and bring near a reign of terror.You lie on beds adorned with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves.You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.

Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways.

The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

“ It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.

The Lord enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people:“ It is you who have ruined my vineyard; the plunder from the poor is in your houses.What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

“ Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself,‘ Who can bring me down to the ground?’

you who hate good and love evil; who tear the skin from my people and the flesh from their bones;who eat my people’s flesh, strip off their skin and break their bones in pieces; who chop them up like meat for the pan, like flesh for the pot?”Then they will cry out to the Lord, but he will not answer them. At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done.

“ There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with soresand longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
