as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.

And suppose these three men were in that country. Then they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved. But the land would become a dry and empty desert. And that is just as sure as I am alive,” announces the Lord and King.

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

‘ Surely our foes are destroyed, and fire devours their wealth.’

as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

even if these three men— Noah, Daniel and Job— were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord.

and said,‘ Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’

“ Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.

So tell them,‘ As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:In this wilderness your bodies will fall— every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me.

Then Abraham approached him and said:“ Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?Far be it from you to do such a thing— to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”The Lord said,“ If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”Then Abraham spoke up again:“ Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?”“ If I find forty- five there,” he said,“ I will not destroy it.”Once again he spoke to him,“ What if only forty are found there?” He said,“ For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”Then he said,“ May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?” He answered,“ I will not do it if I find thirty there.”Abraham said,“ Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?” He said,“ For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”Then he said,“ May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?” He answered,“ For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

Say to them,‘ As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’
