They will bear their guilt— the prophet will be as guilty as the one who consults him.

The prophet will be as much to blame as the one who asks him for advice. Both of them will be guilty.

And they shall bear their punishment— the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike—

False prophets and those who seek their guidance will all be punished for their sins.

They will bear their punishment— the punishment of the one who inquires will be the same as that of the prophet—

And they will bear the punishment for their wrongdoing; as the wrongdoing of the inquirer is, so the wrongdoing of the prophet will be,

And they shall bear their iniquity; the punishment of the prophet shall be the same as the punishment of the one who inquired,

And they shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that seeketh unto him;

They will bear their punishment— the punishment of the one who inquires will be the same as that of the prophet—

And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh[ unto him];

They will bear their iniquity. The iniquity of the prophet will be even as the iniquity of him who seeks him;

He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Take note– he gave his promise and did all these things– he will not escape!“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: As surely as I live, I will certainly repay him for despising my oath and breaking my covenant!I will throw my net over him and he will be caught in my snare; I will bring him to Babylon and judge him there because of the unfaithfulness he committed against me.

They offer only superficial help for the hurt my dear people have suffered. They say,“ Everything will be all right!” But everything is not all right!Are they ashamed because they have done such disgusting things? No, they are not at all ashamed! They do not even know how to blush! So they will die just like others have died. They will be brought to ruin when I punish them, says the LORD.

Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to do battle with the one who rode the horse and with his army.Now the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf– signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur.The others were killed by the sword that extended from the mouth of the one who rode the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh.

I must endure the LORD’s anger, for I have sinned against him. But then he will defend my cause, and accomplish justice on my behalf. He will lead me out into the light; I will experience firsthand his deliverance.

For when anyone from the house of Israel, or the foreigner who lives in Israel, separates himself from me and erects his idols in his heart and sets the obstacle leading to his iniquity before his face, and then consults a prophet to seek something from me, I the LORD am determined to answer him personally.I will set my face against that person and will make him an object lesson and a byword and will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Suppose a prophet or one who foretells by dreams should appear among you and show you a sign or wonder,and the sign or wonder should come to pass concerning what he said to you, namely,“ Let us follow other gods”– gods whom you have not previously known–“ and let us serve them.”You must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer, for the LORD your God will be testing you to see if you love him with all your mind and being.You must follow the LORD your God and revere only him; and you must observe his commandments, obey him, serve him, and remain loyal to him.As for that prophet or dreamer, he must be executed because he encouraged rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt, redeeming you from that place of slavery, and because he has tried to entice you from the way the LORD your God has commanded you to go. In this way you must purge out evil from within.Suppose your own full brother, your son, your daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend should seduce you secretly and encourage you to go and serve other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have previously known,the gods of the surrounding people( whether near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other).You must not give in to him or even listen to him; do not feel sympathy for him or spare him or cover up for him.Instead, you must kill him without fail! Your own hand must be the first to strike him, and then the hands of the whole community.You must stone him to death because he tried to entice you away from the LORD your God, who delivered you from the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.

For each one will carry his own load.

Then the man will be free from iniquity, but that woman will bear the consequences of her iniquity.’”

I did not send those prophets, though they claim to be prophesying in my name. They may be saying,‘ No war or famine will happen in this land.’ But I, the LORD, say this about them:‘ War and starvation will kill those prophets.’

Then Cain said to the LORD,“ My punishment is too great to endure!

They will repay you for your obscene conduct, and you will be punished for idol worship. Then you will know that I am the sovereign LORD.”

They offer only superficial help for the harm my people have suffered. They say,‘ Everything will be all right!’ But everything is not all right!Are they ashamed because they have done such shameful things? No, they are not at all ashamed. They do not even know how to blush! So they will die, just like others have died. They will be brought to ruin when I punish them,” says the LORD.

Therefore speak to them and say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: When any one from the house of Israel erects his idols in his heart and sets the obstacle leading to his iniquity before his face, and then consults a prophet, I the LORD am determined to answer him personally according to the enormity of his idolatry.

Suppose a man or woman is discovered among you– in one of your villages that the LORD your God is giving you– who sins before the Lord your God and breaks his covenantby serving other gods and worshiping them– the sun, moon, or any other heavenly bodies which I have not permitted you to worship.When it is reported to you and you hear about it, you must investigate carefully. If it is indeed true that such a disgraceful thing is being done in Israel,you must bring to your city gates that man or woman who has done this wicked thing– that very man or woman– and you must stone that person to death.At the testimony of two or three witnesses they must be executed. They cannot be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.The witnesses must be first to begin the execution, and then all the people are to join in afterward. In this way you will purge evil from among you.
