They say to the people,‘ Is it not a good time to build houses? This city is like an iron pot. We are safe inside it like meat in a pot.’

They are saying,‘ Isn’t the time near to build houses? The city is the pot, and we are the meat.’

who say,‘ The time is not near to build houses; this city is the caldron, and we are the meat.’

that say, The time is not near to build houses: this city is the caldron, and we are the flesh.

They are saying,‘ Isn’t the time near to build houses? The city is the pot, and we are the meat.’

Which say,[ It is] not near; let us build houses: this[ city is] the caldron, and we[ be] the flesh.

“ Son of man, the Israelites are saying,‘ The vision he sees is for many years from now, and he prophesies about the distant future.’

“ Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel:‘ The days go by and every vision comes to nothing’?

They will say,“ Where is this‘ coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

Doom has come upon you, upon you who dwell in the land. The time has come! The day is near! There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.

You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.

Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Put on the cooking pot; put it on and pour water into it.Put into it the pieces of meat, all the choice pieces— the leg and the shoulder. Fill it with the best of these bones;take the pick of the flock. Pile wood beneath it for the bones; bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.“‘ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Woe to the city of bloodshed, to the pot now encrusted, whose deposit will not go away! Take the meat out piece by piece in whatever order it comes.“‘ For the blood she shed is in her midst: She poured it on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground, where the dust would cover it.To stir up wrath and take revenge I put her blood on the bare rock, so that it would not be covered.“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Woe to the city of bloodshed! I, too, will pile the wood high.So heap on the wood and kindle the fire. Cook the meat well, mixing in the spices; and let the bones be charred.Then set the empty pot on the coals till it becomes hot and its copper glows, so that its impurities may be melted and its deposit burned away.It has frustrated all efforts; its heavy deposit has not been removed, not even by fire.“‘ Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.“‘ I the Lord have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

The word of the Lord came to me:“ What do you see, Jeremiah?”“ I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.The Lord said to me,“ You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”The word of the Lord came to me again:“ What do you see?”“ I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered.“ It is tilting toward us from the north.”

“ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: The bodies you have thrown there are the meat and this city is the pot, but I will drive you out of it.You fear the sword, and the sword is what I will bring against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.I will drive you out of the city and deliver you into the hands of foreigners and inflict punishment on you.You will fall by the sword, and I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat in it; I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel.

to those who say,“ Let God hurry; let him hasten his work so we may see it. The plan of the Holy One of Israel— let it approach, let it come into view, so we may know it.”
