凡从人间挑选的大祭司都是奉派替人办理属神的事，要为罪献上礼物和祭物。他能体谅无知和迷失的人，因为他自己也是被软弱所困，因此他理当为百姓和自己的罪献祭。没有人可擅自取得大祭司的尊荣，惟有蒙神所选召的才可以，像亚伦一样。同样，基督也没有自取作大祭司的荣耀，而是在乎向他说话的那一位，他说：“你是我的儿子，我今日生了你。”就如又有一处说：“你是照着麦基洗德的体系永远为祭司。”基督在他肉身的日子，曾大声哀哭，流泪祷告，恳求那能救他免死的神，就因他的虔诚蒙了应允。他虽然为儿子，还是因所受的苦难学了顺从。既然他得以完全，就为凡顺从他的人成了永远得救的根源，并蒙神照着麦基洗德的体系宣称他为大祭司。论到这事，我们有好些话要说，可是很难解释，因为你们听不进去。按时间说，你们早该作教师了，谁知还需要有人再将神圣言基础的要道教导你们；你们成了那需要吃奶、不能吃干粮的人。凡只能吃奶的，就不熟练仁义的道理，因为他是婴孩。惟独长大成人的才能吃干粮，他们的心窍因练习而灵活，能分辨善恶了。

因为有给他作见证的说：“你是照着麦基洗德的体系永远为祭司。”一方面，先前的诫命因软弱无能而废掉了，（律法本来就不能成就什么）；另一方面，一个更好的指望被引进来，靠这指望，我们就可以亲近神。再者，耶稣成为祭司，并不是没有神的誓言；其他的祭司被指派时并没有这种誓言，只有耶稣是起誓立的，因为那位立他的对他说：“主起了誓，绝不改变。你是永远为祭司。”既是起誓立的，耶稣也作了更美之约的中保。一方面，那些成为祭司的数目本来多，是因为受死亡限制不能长久留住。另一方面，这位既是永远留住的，他具有不可更换的祭司职任。

我们所讲的事，其中第一要紧的就是：我们有这样一位大祭司，他已经坐在天上至大者宝座的右边，在圣所，就是在真帐幕里作仆役；这帐幕是主所支搭的，不是人所支搭的。凡大祭司都是为献礼物和祭物设立的，所以这位大祭司也必须有所献上。他若在地上，就不用作祭司，因为已经有照律法献礼物的祭司了。他们所供奉的本是天上之事的样式和影像，正如摩西将要造帐幕的时候，神警戒他，说：“要谨慎，一切都要照着在山上指示你的样式去做。”如今耶稣已经得了更优越的事奉，正如他作更美之约的中保；这约原是凭更美之应许立的。第一个约若没有瑕疵，就无须寻求第二个约了。所以神指责他们说：“主说，看哪，日子将到，我要与以色列家和犹大家另立新的约；不像我拉着他们祖宗的手领他们出埃及地的时候，与他们所立的约；因为他们不恒心守我的约，所以我也不理他们；这是主说的。主又说：那些日子以后，我与以色列家所立的约是这样：我要将我的律法放在他们的心思里，写在他们的心上；我要作他们的神，他们要作我的子民。

要给亚伦和他的儿子束上腰带，裹上头巾，他们就凭永远的定例得祭司的职分。又要授圣职给亚伦和他的儿子。

他无父、无母、无族谱、无生之始、无命之终，是与神的儿子相似，他永远作祭司。

“你们要记念这日，世世代代守这日为耶和华的节日，作为你们永远的定例。

向来位分大的给位分小的祝福，这是无可争议的。

你要吩咐以色列人说：‘你们要世世代代以这油为我的圣膏油。

凡调和与此类似的膏油，或将它膏在别人身上的，这人要从百姓中剪除。’”
