耶和華起了誓，永不反悔，祂說：「你照麥基洗德的模式永遠做祭司。」

從人間選出來的大祭司，都是受委任代表人辦理與上帝有關的事，為人的罪向上帝獻上禮物和贖罪祭。他能體諒那些無知和迷失的人，因為他自己也有人性的軟弱。所以，他不但要為眾人的罪獻祭，也要為自己的罪獻祭。沒有人能自取這大祭司的尊榮，只有像亞倫一樣蒙上帝呼召的人才可以做大祭司。同樣，基督也沒有自取榮耀做大祭司，是上帝對祂說：「你是我的兒子，我今日成為你父親。」在聖經的另一處，上帝又說：「你照麥基洗德的模式永遠做祭司。」基督在世為人的時候，曾經聲淚俱下地祈求能救祂脫離死亡的上帝。祂因為敬虔而蒙了應允。基督雖然是上帝的兒子，仍然從所受的苦難中學習了順服。祂既然達到了純全的地步，就成了永恆救恩的源頭，使所有順服祂的人都得到拯救。上帝照著麥基洗德的模式立祂做大祭司。關於這方面的事，我們還有很多話要說，但因為你們已經聽不進去，很難向你們解釋。按你們學習的時間來算，你們本該做別人的老師了，可惜你們還需要別人向你們傳授上帝話語的基本道理，成了不能吃乾糧、只能吃奶的人。因為只能吃奶的人還是嬰孩，不熟習仁義的道理。乾糧是給成年人吃的，他們的心思歷經鍛煉，能夠分辨善惡。

因為有一處經文為祂做見證說：「你照麥基洗德的模式永遠做祭司。」以前的條例由於本身的弱點和無益被廢除了，因為律法並沒有使人變得純全。但如今，我們可以藉著一個更美好的盼望來到上帝面前。此外，耶穌做祭司並非沒有誓言作保，其他人做祭司沒有誓言作保。上帝只對耶穌說過：「主起了誓，絕不反悔，你永遠做祭司。」這誓言使耶穌成了更美之約的保證人。以前做祭司的人數極多，但因為受死亡的限制，都不能長久擔任聖職。然而，基督永遠活著，祂的祭司職位也永不更改。

我們所講的要點是：我們有這樣一位大祭司，祂現在已經坐在天上至高上帝的寶座右邊，並在聖所裡供職。這聖所就是真正的聖幕，不是人建立的，而是主親手建立的。所有的大祭司都是為了向上帝獻禮物和祭物而設立的，因此我們這位大祭司也必須有所獻上。祂如果是在地上，根本不會做祭司，因為地上已經有照律法向上帝獻禮物的祭司了。這些祭司的事奉都是仿效和反映天上的事，正如摩西建聖幕的時候，上帝指示他說：「你務要照著在山上指示你的樣式造各樣的器具。」但如今，基督得到了一個更超越的職任，正如祂擔任了更美之約的中保，這約是根據更美的應許所立的。因為如果第一個約沒有缺點，就不必另立新約了。然而，上帝指責祂的百姓，說：「看啊，時候將到，我要與以色列家和猶大家另立新約，這約不同於我與他們祖先所立的約，就是我牽著他們祖先的手領他們離開埃及時所立的。因為他們不持守我的約，所以我不再理會他們。這是主說的。主又說，那些日子以後，我將與以色列家立這樣的約，我要把我的律法放在他們腦中，寫在他們心上。我要作他們的上帝，他們要作我的子民。

為他們束上腰帶，戴上帽子，他們就按永遠的條例得到祭司的職分。你要這樣把聖職授予他們。

他的父母、族譜、生辰、壽數都不得而知，他跟上帝的兒子相似，永遠擔任祭司的職分。

你們要記住這一天，守為耶和華的節期，作為世世代代永遠的定例。

毫無疑問，那為人祝福的總比領受祝福的位分大。

你要把我的話告訴以色列百姓，『我要世世代代以這油為聖膏油。

任何人若仿製或用這油抹祭司以外的人，要將他從民中剷除。』」
