永恆主在西乃山和摩西說完了話，就把兩塊法版交給摩西，是石版，上帝用手指頭寫的。

摩西進入雲中上了山；摩西在山上四十晝又四十夜。

『因永恆主說要消滅你們，我就俯伏在永恆主面前，俯伏到那四十晝四十夜。

於是我像先前那樣、俯伏在永恆主面前、四十晝又四十夜，飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝；都是因為你們所犯的一切罪，你們行了永恆主所看為壞的事、去惹他發怒。

我上了山、要領受石版、就是永恆主同你們立約的約版；那時我在山上住了四十晝又四十夜；飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝。

版是上帝作的，字是上帝寫的，勒在版上。

那屬致死職事的制度、用文字刻在石頭上的、尚且帶着榮光而立，甚至以色列人、因摩西臉上的榮光（雖那榮光漸漸消逝）、人也不能定睛看他的臉，

你所摔碎那先前的版上面的話我要寫在版上；你要將版放在櫃中。」於是我用皂莢木作了一個櫃，又鑿出兩塊石版、和先前的一樣；我手裏拿着這兩塊版，就上了山。永恆主把大眾的日子在山上從火中對你們講的那十段話、都寫在版上、像先前寫的一樣；永恆主將版交給了我。
