當那些日子、他們真地造了牛犢了，又把祭物供上去給那偶像，並且因他們自己手中所製造的而歡躍。上帝就轉臉不顧，任憑他們去服事天上的星軍，正如神言人們書上所寫的：「以色列家啊，你們四十年在野地裏何曾將犧牲和祭物供獻與我呢？

為了他們的緣故、住在地上的人就歡喜快樂，彼此送禮，因為這兩位神言人實在叫住在地上的人受了苦痛。

他們在各祭壇旁鋪開人所當的衣服去躺臥着，又在他們的神廟中喝受罰款之人的酒。

約書亞一聽見人民呼喊時候的聲音，就對摩西說：『營裏有爭戰的聲音哪！』摩西說：『這不是打勝仗呼應的聲音，也不是打敗仗呼應的聲音；我所聽見的乃是唱和的聲音。』摩西走近營前，一看見牛犢，以及人在舞蹈着，他的怒氣便發作，就把兩塊版從手中扔去，給摔碎在山下了。

我必使你們的節期變為悲哀，使你們的歌曲都變為哀歌；使人人的腰都束上麻布，人人頭上都光禿。我必使這場哀傷如喪獨生子的悲哀，其末了、終如一天苦苦的日子。』

摩西將永恆主的一切話都寫上，清早起來，在山下築了一座祭壇，按以色列的十二族派立十二根聖柱。又打發以色列人中的青年人去獻上燔祭，並向永恆主獻公牛為平安祭。
