So Moses went back to the Lord and said,“ Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.

你們不可做銀的神像和金的神像和我相比，你們決不可為自己做這些神像。

第二天，摩西對人民說：“你們犯了大罪，現在我要上耶和華那裡去，或者我可以為你們贖罪。”

為了你們所犯的一切罪，作了耶和華看為惡的事，惹他發怒，我就像先前那樣，俯伏在耶和華面前，四十晝夜，不吃不喝。因為耶和華向你們大發烈怒，要消滅你們，我就很懼怕；但是那一次耶和華也聽了我的懇求。

“不可為自己做偶像，也不可做天上、地下和地底下水中各物的形象。

禱告說：‘我的神啊，我感覺羞恥慚愧，不敢向我的神你仰面；因為我們的罪孽多至滅頂，我們的罪過滔天。從我們列祖的日子直到今日，我們罪惡深重，由於我們的罪孽，我們和我們的王，以及祭司，都被交在各地的列王手中：被刀殺、被擄掠、被搶奪，丟臉蒙羞，就像今天的光景一樣。

耶和華啊！我們和我們的君王、領袖、列祖，都滿面羞愧，因為我們得罪了你。

耶和華以色列的神啊，你是公義的！我們現今才可以留下，成為逃脫的人。看哪，我們在你面前是有罪過的，因此沒有人能在你面前站立得住。’”

摩西在那裡與耶和華在一起共四十晝夜，不吃飯，也不喝水。他把這約的話寫在兩塊版上，這就是十誡。

我們犯了罪，行了不義，作了惡，背叛了你，偏離了你的誡命典章；

以色列眾人都違背了你的律法，偏離了你，不聽從你的話，因此，神的僕人摩西的律法書上所記載的咒詛和誓言，都傾倒在我們身上；我們實在得罪了神。

在一切臨到我們身上的事上，你都是公義的；因為你所行的是信實的，我們所行的是邪惡的。
