Why let the Egyptians say,‘ Their God rescued them with the evil intention of slaughtering them in the mountains and wiping them from the face of the earth’? Turn away from your fierce anger. Change your mind about this terrible disaster you have threatened against your people!

Why should the Egyptians talk, saying,‘ With evil motives He brought them out, to kill them on the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your burning anger and relent of doing harm to Your people.

Why should the Egyptians speak, and say,‘ He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people.

Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil did he bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

摩西對永恆主說：『這樣、埃及人一定會聽見，一定會對這地的居民說；因為你曾施展你的大能力將這人民從他們中間領上來；他們早已聽見永恆主你在這人民中間、永恆主你給人親眼相對地看見，你的雲彩停在他們上頭，你在他們前面領路、日間在雲柱中、而夜間在火柱中。如今你若把這人民殺死，如同殺死一人，那麼那些聽見你名聲的外國人就會議論說：「這是因為永恆主不能把這人民領進他向他們起誓應許之地、故此在曠野把他們宰殺掉了。」

免得你領我們從那裏出來的那地的人說：『永恆主因為不能把這人民領進他所應許的地，又因為恨着他們，才把他們領出去，要在曠野害死他們。』

於是永恆主就改變心意不降災禍，就是他說、要向他人民施行的。

迦南人和這地所有的居民聽見了，一定會把我們圍住，將我們的名從地上剪除掉；那時你為你至大之名要怎麼辦呢？』

既收拾掉你一切的震怒，使你猛烈的怒氣轉消了，

因為萬軍之永恆主這麼說：『你們列祖惹了我震怒時，我怎樣定意降禍於你們，並不改變心意，萬軍之永恆主說，

永恆主對這事改變了心意；主永恆主就說：『這事也不發生啦。』

拯救我們的上帝啊，求你因你名之榮耀的關係幫助我們；為你名的緣故援救我們，赦除我們的罪。為甚麼容外國人譏笑說：『他們的上帝在哪裏？』呢？願我們親眼看見人在列國中都知道你伸了你僕人所流之血的冤。

永恆主啊，要到幾時呢？回心轉意，憐恤你僕人吧！

或者上帝改變初衷，回心轉意、不發烈怒，使我們不至於滅亡，也未可知。』

這樣，眾人就在亞干身上立起一大堆石頭；那堆石頭到今日還在；於是永恆主就回心轉意、不發烈怒。因此那地方到今日還叫亞割山谷。

永恆主啊，仇敵辱罵，愚頑之民褻慢你的名；求你記得這事。

永恆主就後悔造了人在地上，心中憂傷。

『因為永恆主見他人民的手力用盡、沒有剩下一人，連受束縛的帶得釋放的都沒剩下，就要為他人民行裁判，憐恤他的僕人，

然而他、卻有憐憫；他赦除人的罪孽，而不除滅人；並且屢次使怒氣轉消，不激起一切烈怒。

『若不是我怕仇敵惹我發怒，我原想着說：「我必將他們割裂成塊，使他們的名號都滅絕於人間」；恐怕敵人判斷錯了，恐怕他們說：「是我們的手高舉起來作的，並不是永恆主行了這一切事啊。」

然而我卻為我名的緣故而行事，免得我的名在他們所同住的列國人眼前被褻瀆，我就是在這些列國人眼前領我人民出埃及地、使他們認識我的。

請為全體大眾設立我們的首領；凡在我們各城市中、娶外籍女人為妻的、都要在指定的日期來；一城一城的長老和它的審判官也要和他們一同來，好使我們的上帝對於這事的烈怒轉離我們。』

於是他為了他們的緣故就記起他的約，照他堅愛之豐盛而後悔；

該被毁滅歸神之物、一點都不可粘着你的手，好使永恆主回心轉意、不向你發烈怒，反而向你施憐憫；既憐憫你，就使你人數增多，照他向你列祖所起誓應許過的；

然而我卻為我名的緣故縮手而行事，免得我的名在列國人眼前被褻瀆，我領我人民出埃及就是在這些列國人眼前的。

永恆主對這事改變了心意；主永恆主就說：『這事不發生啦。』
