“ Get away from among this congregation so that I may consume them instantly.” Then they fell on their faces.And Moses said to Aaron,“ Take your censer and put fire in it from the altar, and place incense on it; then bring it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the Lord, the plague has begun!”Then Aaron took it just as Moses had spoken, and he ran into the midst of the assembly; and behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put on the incense and made atonement for the people.And he took his stand between the dead and the living, so that the plague was brought to a halt.

For I was afraid of the anger and the rage with which the Lord was angry with you so as to destroy you; but the Lord listened to me that time as well.

and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much.

Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said,“ Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people whom You have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

Please forgive the guilt of this people in accordance with the greatness of Your mercy, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”So the Lord said,“ I have forgiven them in accordance with your word;

Then he said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”So he said to him,“ What is your name?” And he said,“ Jacob.”Then he said,“ Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have contended with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

So the Lord said to me,“ Do not pray for a good outcome on behalf of this people.

Then he said,“ Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once: suppose ten are found there?” And He said,“ I will not destroy it on account of the ten.”As soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham the Lord departed, and Abraham returned to his place.

And it came about, as soon as Moses approached the camp, that he saw the calf and the people dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.

But they fell on their faces and said,“ God, the God of the spirits of humanity, when one person sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”

Then the Lord said to me,“ Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before Me, My heart would not be with this people. Send them away from My presence and have them go!
