“你們要離開這會眾，我好在眨眼間把他們消滅。”他們二人就俯伏在地。摩西對亞倫說：“你要拿著香爐，把壇上的火盛在裡頭，又加上香，快快帶到會眾那裡去，為他們贖罪，因為有震怒從耶和華面前出來，瘟疫已經開始了。”亞倫照著摩西吩咐的把香爐拿來，跑到會眾中間，果然，瘟疫已經在人民中間開始了；他就加上香，為人民贖罪。他站在死人與活人中間，瘟疫就止住了。

因為耶和華向你們大發烈怒，要消滅你們，我就很懼怕；但是那一次耶和華也聽了我的懇求。

並且我要發怒，用刀殺死你們，使你們的妻子成為寡婦，你們的兒女成為孤兒。

所以你們應當彼此認罪，互相代求，這樣你們就可以痊愈。義人祈禱所發出的力量，是大有功效的。

摩西就懇求耶和華他的神施恩，說：“耶和華啊，你為甚麼向你的人民發烈怒呢？這人民是你用大能和全能的手從埃及地領出來的。

求你照著你的大慈愛，饒恕這人民的罪孽，好像你從埃及直到現在，常赦免這人民一樣。”耶和華說：“我就照著你的話，赦免他們；

那人說：“天快亮了，讓我走吧。”雅各說：“如果你不給我祝福，我就不讓你走。”那人問他：“你叫甚麼名字？”他回答：“雅各。”那人說：“你的名字不要再叫雅各，要叫以色列，因為你與神與人較力，都得了勝。”

耶和華對我說：“不要為這人民祈求好處；

亞伯拉罕說：“請我主不要動怒，容我問這最後的一次，假如在那裡找到十個呢？”他回答：“我因這十個的緣故，也不毀滅那城。”耶和華與亞伯拉罕說完了話，就走了；亞伯拉罕也回到自己的地方去了。

摩西走近營前的時候，看見了那牛犢，又看見了有人唱歌跳舞，他就發烈怒，把兩塊法版從他的手中摔掉，在山下把它們摔碎了。

摩西和亞倫就俯伏在地，說：“神啊，萬人之靈的神啊，一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？”

耶和華對我說：“即使摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不會轉向這人民。你把他們從我面前趕走，叫他們出去！
