「你們離開這些會眾，我好在頃刻之間消滅他們。」他們二人就俯伏在地。摩西對亞倫說：「取香爐來，裡面放些壇上的火，添上香，趕快帶到會眾那裡為他們贖罪，因為耶和華發怒了，瘟疫已經開始。」亞倫就照著摩西的吩咐取來香爐，跑到會眾當中。那時瘟疫已經在人群中蔓延起來。他就在爐中放上香為民眾贖罪。他站在活人和死人中間，瘟疫就止住了。

耶和華向你們發烈怒，要毀滅你們，我非常懼怕。但耶和華再次垂聽了我的祈求。

向你們發怒，用刀殺掉你們，使你們的妻子變為寡婦，兒女成為孤兒。

所以你們要彼此認罪，互相代禱，好得到醫治。義人的禱告有極大的力量和功效。

摩西懇求他的上帝耶和華說：「耶和華啊，你為什麼要向你的子民發烈怒呢？這些子民是你親自用神蹟和大能從埃及領出來的。

從他們離開埃及直到現在，你一直在饒恕他們，求你以偉大的慈愛再次赦免這些人的罪。」耶和華說：「我聽你的祈求，赦免他們。

那人說：「天亮了，讓我走吧！」但雅各說：「你不祝福我，我就不讓你走。」那人問道：「你叫什麼名字？」他說：「我叫雅各。」那人說：「你以後不要再叫雅各了，你要叫以色列，因為你跟上帝和人角力都得勝了。」

耶和華對我說：「你不要為這百姓禱告。

亞伯拉罕又說：「求主不要發怒，讓我問最後一次，倘若在那裡只找到十個義人呢？」耶和華說：「為了那十個人的緣故，我也不會毀滅那城。」耶和華跟亞伯拉罕說完話便離開了，亞伯拉罕也回家去了。

摩西走近營地的時候，看見牛犢，又看見百姓在跳舞，心中大怒，便把手上的兩塊石版摔碎在山腳下，

摩西和亞倫就伏在地上說：「上帝啊，賜人生命的上帝啊！一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？」

耶和華對我說：「就算摩西和撒母耳站在我面前求情，我也不會憐憫這些百姓。你把他們從我面前趕走吧！
