And by means of many wonders and miraculous signs, he led them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and through the wilderness for forty years.

“ Therefore, say to the people of Israel:‘ I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.

All the officials of Egypt will run to me and fall to the ground before me.‘ Please leave!’ they will beg.‘ Hurry! And take all your followers with you.’ Only then will I go!” Then, burning with anger, Moses left Pharaoh.Now the Lord had told Moses earlier,“ Pharaoh will not listen to you, but then I will do even more mighty miracles in the land of Egypt.”

Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron during the night.“ Get out!” he ordered.“ Leave my people— and take the rest of the Israelites with you! Go and worship the Lord as you have requested.Take your flocks and herds, as you said, and be gone. Go, but bless me as you leave.”All the Egyptians urged the people of Israel to get out of the land as quickly as possible, for they thought,“ We will all die!”

For bread they baked flat cakes from the dough without yeast they had brought from Egypt. It was made without yeast because the people were driven out of Egypt in such a hurry that they had no time to prepare the bread or other food.

So when Abraham became the father of Isaac, he circumcised him on the eighth day. And the practice was continued when Isaac became the father of Jacob, and when Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Israelite nation.“ These patriarchs were jealous of their brother Joseph, and they sold him to be a slave in Egypt. But God was with himand rescued him from all his troubles. And God gave him favor before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. God also gave Joseph unusual wisdom, so that Pharaoh appointed him governor over all of Egypt and put him in charge of the palace.“ But a famine came upon Egypt and Canaan. There was great misery, and our ancestors ran out of food.Jacob heard that there was still grain in Egypt, so he sent his sons— our ancestors— to buy some.The second time they went, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers, and they were introduced to Pharaoh.

The Lord will strike Egypt, and then he will bring healing. For the Egyptians will turn to the Lord, and he will listen to their pleas and heal them.

But I will make Pharaoh’s heart stubborn so I can multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.Even then Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you. So I will bring down my fist on Egypt. Then I will rescue my forces— my people, the Israelites— from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.When I raise my powerful hand and bring out the Israelites, the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”

the Lord sent a prophet to the Israelites. He said,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of slavery in Egypt.

But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.

Then Gideon took the elders of the town and taught them a lesson, punishing them with thorns and briers from the wilderness.

Has any other god dared to take a nation for himself out of another nation by means of trials, miraculous signs, wonders, war, a strong hand, a powerful arm, and terrifying acts? Yet that is what the Lord your God did for you in Egypt, right before your eyes.

Then the Lord told Moses,“ Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. When he feels the force of my strong hand, he will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land!”

O Lord, they pay no attention to your upraised fist. Show them your eagerness to defend your people. Then they will be ashamed. Let your fire consume your enemies.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ I will strike Pharaoh and the land of Egypt with one more blow. After that, Pharaoh will let you leave this country. In fact, he will be so eager to get rid of you that he will force you all to leave.
