The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them.

Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.Meanwhile, the word of God continued to spread, and there were many new believers.

When the Egyptians oppressed and humiliated us by making us their slaves,we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors. He heard our cries and saw our hardship, toil, and oppression.

The nation of Israel is the vineyard of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. The people of Judah are his pleasant garden. He expected a crop of justice, but instead he found oppression. He expected to find righteousness, but instead he heard cries of violence.

When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.“ Get up!” the angel said.“ Take the child and his mother back to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.”

And the angel also said,“ You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael( which means‘ God hears’), for the Lord has heard your cry of distress.

It will be a sign and a witness that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is worshiped in the land of Egypt. When the people cry to the Lord for help against those who oppress them, he will send them a savior who will rescue them.

But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.
