「過了四十年，在西奈山的曠野，上帝的天使在荊棘火焰中向摩西顯現。

耶和華說：「所多瑪和蛾摩拉罪惡深重，人們怨聲載道。我現在要下去看看他們的所作所為是否如所說的那樣邪惡，如果不是，我也會知道。」

耶和華說：「我已經看見我子民在埃及所受的苦難，聽見了他們因監工的壓迫而發出的呼求。我知道他們的痛苦。我下來是要從埃及人手中救他們，帶他們離開那裡，到一個遼闊肥沃的奶蜜之鄉，就是現在迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人居住的地方。現在，以色列人的呼求傳到我耳中，我也看到了埃及人怎樣壓迫他們。

希律沒有把榮耀歸給上帝，主的天使立刻懲罰他，他當場被蟲子咬死了。上帝的道日見興旺，越傳越廣。

埃及人苦待我們，壓迫我們，強迫我們做奴隸。於是，我們呼求我們祖先的上帝耶和華。祂聽見我們的呼求，看見我們的艱難、困苦和所受的壓迫，

萬軍之耶和華的葡萄園就是以色列，祂所喜愛的葡萄樹就是猶大人。祂希望看到公平，卻只看見殺戮；指望看到公義，卻只聽見冤聲。

希律死後，主的天使在夢中向在埃及的約瑟顯現，說：「起來，帶著孩子和祂母親回以色列去吧！因為要殺害孩子的人已經死了。」

接著又說：「你現在懷了孕，將來會生一個男孩，你要給他取名叫以實瑪利，因為耶和華已經聽見你痛苦的哀聲。

這是萬軍之耶和華在埃及的記號和憑據。埃及人因受到欺壓就呼求耶和華，祂必差遣一位救主保護、拯救他們。

在苦難中我呼求耶和華，向我的上帝求助。祂從殿中垂聽我的呼求，我的聲音達到祂耳中。

於是，他們在患難中呼求耶和華，耶和華便拯救他們脫離困境。祂一發令，就醫治了他們，救他們脫離死亡。

「不可虧待寡婦和孤兒，倘若你們欺凌他們，他們向我呼求，我必聽他們的呼求，向你們發怒，用刀殺掉你們，使你們的妻子變為寡婦，兒女成為孤兒。「倘若有貧苦的同胞向你借錢，你不可像放債的一樣從中取利。倘若他把衣服給你作抵押，你要在日落之前把衣服還給他。因為他只有這件蔽體的衣服，若是沒有，他晚上如何睡覺？他若呼求我，我必定幫助他，因為我是仁慈的。

「你看見我們祖先在埃及所受的苦，又聽見他們在紅海邊的呼求，

耶和華說：「你做了什麼事？你弟弟的血從地裡向我哭訴。

耶和華在米甸對摩西說：「你只管放心回埃及去，想害你性命的人都已經死了。」

你們要在每天日落前付給他們工錢，因為他們窮苦，靠工錢維生；否則他們向耶和華控訴你們，你們就有罪了。

耶和華對他們說：「你們受埃及人、亞摩利人、亞捫人、非利士人、西頓人、亞瑪力人和馬雲人的壓迫，就呼求我，我豈沒有拯救你們嗎？

「我卸下了你肩上的重擔，使你的雙手不再做苦工，你在苦難中向我呼求，我就拯救了你，從雷聲隆隆的密雲中應允了你。我在米利巴泉邊考驗你。（細拉）

耶和華說：「我要保護受欺壓的困苦人和哀歎的貧窮人，使他們如願以償。」

但我們呼求耶和華，祂就垂聽了我們的聲音，差遣天使把我們領出埃及。現在我們來到你邊境的加低斯城，

去見法老的時候，摩西八十歲，亞倫八十三歲。
