Your ewes and female goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten rams from your flocks.Animals torn by wild beasts I never brought to you; I always absorbed the loss myself. You always made me pay for every missing animal, whether it was taken by day or at night.I was consumed by scorching heat during the day and by piercing cold at night, and I went without sleep.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.

But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow.
